OT - Cleaning Oil Spill on Carpet

Daughter had a gallon of oil spill in her trunk. Have it blotted up, but still a big mess. Anybody got any good cleaners/chemical/home remedies to help finish the job and get it back to semi usable condition.

Thanks in Advance,

Kirk

A brush, a pail and a lot of Dawn, considerably more Dawn than you'd use to do a sinkful of dinner dishes.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

Dunno if you can still get this, GM (General motors) # 1050244 Fabric cleaner. Its got me out of a few jams when I got oil/grease on a customers interior. sorta stinks but the oder don't hang around long.

Lately I just use brake clean, have also used my share of dish wash'n soap

YIKES--A gallon?!?! Oil--like motor oil, or vegetable oil?

Either way, I"d be tempted to tear the carpet out, use a high pressure hose to wash the residue out of the trunk, and get a new carpet from the junkyard.

Kirk get some stuff called Stall Dry and put it on the carpet to soak up the oil and then lift the carpet up and put some more underneath do this in the reverse of what I said getting old and can't think straight then pull carpet and pressure wash.Don't know where everyone else is but the Auto Recyclers here don't give anything away if they think they can make a dollar.HTH

Take the carpet out and treat it with Spray & Wash then rinse at car wash or in driveway with hose. Spray & wash has to set on the material for a specified period of time before rinsing. It will smell good after the wash.

Thanks for all the ideas, pulled the carpet last night after I found it.

In the dark I did not see that it was soaked through, but about to go look at it and make an assessment in the daylight.

Amount of oil is in question, but it was a gallon container that now has about 1/2 a quart left in it. Not sure how much had been used, but it was almost full. I try to keep fluids in each car for emergencies.

Thanks again for the help,

Kirk
