A Woods L59 is counterclockwise turn. A Woods 59 is clockwise. Are the spindles the same? Are they interchangeable? What makes a mower clockwise or counter clockwise? Is it simply the direction of the blade? Thanks for your help? Doug

if i remember right the spindles use different shafts. counter clock wise rotation uses a left hand thread blade retention bolt, clock wise rotation uses a right hand thread bolt. this is to keep bolts from loosening as spindle and blade rotates.

If you have spindle trouble just replace the whole assembly. It's much easier and the cost is only around $120.00. Four bolts and the blade bolt and it's out.

The rotation is just determined how the belt is arranged from the factory.

The bolts always loosen in the same direction the blade operates in. This helps keep them tight while it is running.

Engine fan blades on automobiles the same rule applies. Loosen it in the direction of blade rotation.

The spindles and blades are different on the L59 as to the 59 mower. You can't flip the blades and you can't interchange the bolts.

Why they made two different rotational mowers I'm not sure of the reason.
