What have i done this time???? My truck revs WAY up there whenever you start it. Someone said i may have yanked or destroyed a hose that runs from something on the firewall, but all the hoses there look fine to me. It is a 94 ranger automatic 3.0 V6. The video with the truck sorta running diddnt want to embed, so here is a link to my Youtube channel. Any and all help is appriciated.

Vacuum line disconnected, or faulty IAC (Idle air controller). Possible TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) fault. Throttle cables binding.

Could be anything. You've got a mighty sour lemon.

Might be the throttle got stuck wide open. Being a 1994 it would have fuel injection. Check where the linkage goes into the throttle body and make sure it didn't stick.

Now if your going to beat on it, do yourself a favor and buy a Camaro. Camaros hold together better than a Ford.

If I was to bet I'd say the throttle cable is bad/stuck. Follow th eair intake hose back to the black cover over the manifold. Remove the cover and have a look at the throttle linkage. Work it by hand and see what happens...

Check to see that the throttle is actually closing. Pull the air intake hose off and see. A wide open throttle = no manifold vacuum = no power assist for the brakes.

It aint a lemon, it might just be a little screwed up. I trust the guy i got it from. Besides, since im responciable for this, how is it a lemon???

Great. I think i"ll start at the gas petal and follow everything from there. Thanks Rob

Its a dumb questin, but ill ask it. What does the throttle body look like and where would i find it??

NO they didn't. What are you talking about. The 2010 models are scheduled to be released by the end of 2009

Lance I see the oil cap off put that back on and check it.

Also my 97 ranger will go to fast idle when strted up then after a few seconds will return to normal. Yours may not be returning back to normal.

Follow that big black hose from the air cleaner box thats mounted behind the right front headlamp to where it connects to the engine. There is a screw type hose clamp that clamps the hose on to the throttle body. Pull that hose and you will be able to see the throttle blade. It should be closed at idle. There is a big black cover that covers the lever on the throttle body where the throttle cable hooks to from the pedal. You showed it in your video.

As Rob said, might be the IAC, they go bad and it "may" run fast. To eliminate a possible vacuum leak you have to trace EACH one to look for broken or brittle hoses. I had a fast idle(>1000 RPMs) on a "91 302 that had a bad intake manifold gasket, not that hard to fix. Go to autozone.com and look at their repair guides, they have excellent pics and decent repair info....for FREE!

They haven't made Camaros for almost 8 years now. Those last ones were UGLY with a capital U. The '10's coming out sure do look a bunch better.

Ford's idle air bypass valve is known for sticking closed. If they fail electrically, it will fail closed. All it is is an electromagnet trying to pull a plunger open against a spring. If the TPS had an open circuit condition, it would drop to hot curb idle speed. Oil cap off is not going to cause it to hit the rev limiter right after starting.

Quite possibly the most striking proof that beauty is in the eye of the beholder...the new Camaros aren't that great looks wise, and they certainly don't hold a candle to the new Challengers. And I can think of a lot more ugly a car than the Third or 4th gen F-bodies. Like the Edge...or the Element.

Lance,
Find the air filter box. You should know where it is since you should have changed the air filter when you bought the truck  Follow the large pipe from their to it's termination. Thats the throttle-body. I agree with the statements so far that this sounds like a throttle cable sticking/binding slightly.

Several reasons. First one is the Camaro had a narrower seat than the Mustang, and a big person wouldn't fit in the seat as well. Second reason is the Camaro always ran a little bit more money, 3rd is I think they lost sales when they got kinda ugly.
Music to your ears

Oh--I thought Camaro was a try to copycat of the first Mustang. Just never sold anywhere close to the number of Mustangs, so they finally gave up.

The Challenger still has that one big problem. CHRYSLER. It does look more like it's early 70's counter part than any of the other nostalgia designs from For and GM. Why they made the Charger only available as a 4 door makes no sense.

I question that from day one, too....4 doors, and they tried to call it a sports car. I laughed. As did most of my car-buddies.

I beg to differ about Camaros being hard for larger guys. I'm 6'2", ~225...I get in and out of my Camaro just fine. Takes a little getting used to, going from Super-C to Pursuit car to Camaro...lol

You treat stuff like crap then expect us to fix your problems? Im sorry dude, but until you fix that switch, youre gona have problems. That switch does more than just start it!

The fast idle you describe can be caused by the failure of the idle air control valve. It is located on the intake manifold and is held on by two bolts. It is a shiny metal right angle valve with an electrical connection on the back of the unit. They cost about $45.00 at a retail parts store. If you don"t have an OBDII code reader, you can test and see if it is the valve by unbolting the unit and putting a gasget made from an old cerial box under the unit and re-install the hold down bolts. This will take the IAC valve out of the circuit. When you start the engine it should not race but idle all the way down to a stall. If this happens, you will know that the IAC valve is defective. Hope this helps. Having owned three Rangers, I am very familar with the IAC valve.

Lance have you ever gone to http://www.thedieselgarage.com/forums/index. there is a lot of knowledge there, fined where they talk on fuel injection gas engine its a good site for both gas and diesel truck engines.

I dont treat my stuff like crap nor do i expect someone to come out and fix it for me

Lanse, please? Wheelies and donuts with your mowers, and doing burnouts with you truck? Thats not treating it like crap? In your video, you said "I was doing a burnout". So now you come and ask advise on how to fix your truck, so tell me, what would you think? Youre a good kid lanse, I really think you are. But you need to give all the details when you post your problems.

glad you didn't think I was trying to be a smarta$$ when I look at the truck I think newer model but he said 94 so I knew it wouldn't hook up to my OBDII scanner very useful tool. I posted it and thought that looks like a know-it-all type of answer.
