Nice looking outfit. Is the 1550 diesel? Never have seen many 3 bottom semi mounts around here, 4 and up were more the norm. Where are you located? Chris

I hope to get a couple more days of plowing in.

I wish I had a couple of weeks of unfrozen ground to grub, reshape and plow more land.

All the rain raised cain with the waterways and such.

Don't think it will happen the way the weather guessers are talking.

I have my daughters boy friend to run the chisel plow today while I grub some more trees with the backhoe.

I hate racing the weather.

Dad didn't even take off to eat turkey. The chisel plow ran all day on thursday. Might make it done before it gets to cold. Anhydrous was finish up on Tuesday.

Chris,
It's a 1550 diesel. I had to search quite awhile to find a 3 16's semimounted plow. As you say, most are 4 bottom and bigger. The 565 Oliver plow was designed to add or drop a bottom. Don't know if this one was originally a 4 and they dropped a bottom or if it came from the factory as a three bottom. It's a good match for the 1550. I live in north central Iowa. Where are you?

That Oliver tractor is sure a good looking honey. I think I have the match to that plow, but with a red Minneapolis Moline paint and name. Mine is a 4 bottom which we pull with a Ford 9000. The breakaway standards is a real improvement over prior models, but sure makes a guy want for the auto reset models that came after. This model plow was made by a company that made plows for many tractor manufacturers. I think they made the blue ones for Ford also. Can't remember the name of the plow company.

Do have a good day!

We've got a 565 3-16 too. Grandpa bought it brand new to go with the 1600 he bought back in 64.

My uncle Doug was up here around Christmas last year from KY and he said the old 3 bottom plow used to have 4 bottoms but Grandpa took it off because the 16 couldn't pull it in most of our feilds. Said it was put in the shed along the wall.

We never found any evidence of that, but it's possible. Grandpa was known for canibalising whatever he had around (And I think most farmers still do) to make it work. I would guess that he used the wear parts to replace worn ones on the plow. God only knows what he did with the rest of the parts...

Lots of 565's came from the factory as 3 bottoms. Guess it depends on your soil conditions. In our area, we plow with an 1855 cranking out 105 PTO HP on a 4-16 plow. Works good, and there are times where I have to drop to 2nd gear to pull through the tough spots. Most of the other farmers, even the big ones, only pull 4 bottoms.

Our 1600 handles 3 bottoms pretty good, wouldn't want to try 4.
