4010 John Deere

I have had a 4010 with a loader for a short time. It seems great except!!!!! The loader is a john deere loader that has been on it for years. An older man had it and gave it little use for a long time. When I lift a big bale or carry a big bale down the road, I can see the engine move in the frame of the tractor. It will go up and down maybe a 1/2" and make a thug sound. If i pop the clutch it does the same thing. Some of the loader bolts were loose and i tightened them and the engine still moves.
I think the engine has bolts from the frame into the engine that are loose and i cannot get to them without taking off the loader.
Does this sound right?
and has anyone else had this happen?

Thank you for any help.

Yes the frame is loose. My JD 148 loader manual calls for getting the frame to engine bolts REALLY tight before mounting the loader. Probably because they know they will work loose.

Tighten those bolts imediately!!!! I bought a 4020 with a 148 loader, the motor mount was cracked on the front right hand side. this was an expensive, time consuming repair.

I would remove the loader and tighten all bolts. Than before remounting loader I would look into strengthening the frame. I think John Deere may have some ideas as to how do this. I have read about this in past posts. By the way you didn't say what model loader you have. Armand P.S. I recall this being discussed on the John Deere site.

Same thing with my 3020 many years ago. The rear engine mounting bolts are broken or loose. You'll notice the muffler 'waffles' in the hood hole, while the hood is still. Makes you think you are seeing things. First time it happened, I threaded for a larger bolt. Second time, I welded a stud in place, and then rebuilt the frame, going back to the axle with reinforced channel iron. Look in archives in the JD page for pix- fixed it over 20 years ago and has not been a problem since. I had neighbors that bought new engine blocks after threading larger broke again. My new frames also provide a nice long step on each side of the tractor.

I would not tighten the bolts you have. THEY HAVE BEEN STREESED. I would REPLACE the bolts and tighten WITH A TORQUE WRENCH to specs.

Sounds like you oughtta take the loader off, remove the loose bolts, replace them with the yellow grade 8 bolts. I'd use red loc-tite thread locker and a 3/4 in. drive breaker bar with a pipe for tightening the new bolts.
