OT: Tool Bag

Got up a little early (3:00am) one day last week and decided to watch the early national news.

One segment was about the space walk and the space station.

During the interview the reporter stated that a $100,000.00 tool bag and its contents was lost in space.

I have no doubt that NASA paid $100,000.00 for a tool bag and its contents.

In an effort to prevent this from happening again, I am willing to contribute 2' of used baling twine to tie the tool bag to the astronauts tool belt.

What would you be willing to contribute, costing under $5.00, to replace the tool bag and its contents?

Please refrain from any mention that the astronaut that lost the tool bag is a woman!

OOPS - and then the fight started.....

Well, when you're talking about a government that was buying $300 hammers 30 years ago, I'd wager it doesn't take a lot of government-priced tools to fill up a $100,000 bag of tools.

I've probably got a "government-priced" $100,000 worth of tools riding in the trunk of my car...probably half of that in a 3/8-drive socket set alone.

Can't agree with you on that one James !!

If I can't find something , I just ask my wife and it may take awhile ,but she usually finds it.

She carries a purse about 9" long and 8" high and I believe [ as heavy it is She must have all the tools I lost in it] I'm afraid to look because I'd never get it all back in.---LOL

for that kind of money, has to be a snap on bag, with an adjustable wrench, pliers and a screwdriver.

Of all the Billions of dollars that NASA has spent over the years what have they accomplished? After they get the space station built what are they going to do with it? All I know they have done is sell a lot of tang. DH

I'd contribute most of a roll of really good duct tape. That's 100 mph tape to you army guys.

I lose so many tools that I just buy replacements at the pawn shop. Losing a $2 tool beats losing a $20 tool any day. I'd donate a pawn shop 9/16 box-end wrench.

Oh Yeah? I'll have to have a chat with James about this post. Its probably going to require a new tractor of my choice for him to get out of this one. Hmm, how about a JD 70 diesel. Sounds good to me. Start hunting, sweetie.

Hello David,

Nancy's M "Sparky" is one of our favorites.

We use it to mow the front and back yard at the farm.

</a>

We trailer it to Hutchins to mow the right-of-way around the fences.

Replaced all the wiring and bought a new generator.

Added a gearshift knob and starter linkage knob.

It is a neat little tractor.

NASA has accomplished much more than any other segment of the U.S. government with the exception of the military. The number of things developed as a direct result of NASA work is bewildering. Tang is just one cheap shot that some people use when they want to complain about NASA. You might want to start by writing your next message on a note paper and sending to all of us in the mail. Before you start I know NASA did not develope computer or internet but they made huge advancments in computer technology.

Did they do it in the space station or on earth? Did they go to the moon? I don't think so. What have the done that was so important in space that they can't do here and save a lot of money? I guess if you like to take a dump in a vaccum cleaner and drink someone else's urine living in the space station may be ok. DH

I really shouldn't even respond since you don't even believe that they landed on the moon. No of course they were invented here but with out the pressure and need to create many things for use in that environment we might very well not make them. As for things that are made in space that are there have been a number of medications that have been developed in zero gravity that could not have been down here. Would you rather that we not explore the world and universe around us and just sit in our caves eating wildebeasts that we hunted with a rock.

Much of the water on earth has passed through somethings kidneys at some point in the last 3 billion years. When we quit exploring our universe, we will stop being human. JimN

Carefully not mentioned in most articles is the grease gun exploding in the bag. Which is why it came out of her hand. There is a tether on the bag, NASA isn't sure why that failed as well, though it may have to do with the explosion.

I can believe that bag and its contents were high dollar. They are supposed to work in some rather extreme conditions. Zero pressure to full pressure, extreme heat and cold.

Do you really believe that you could keep that big of a secret for that many years. If so than there isn't much else to say. But as for evidence my father-in-law worked with the moon rocks as they came back from the missions. He was not one to cover up for anyone and was a very respected scientist who spent the better part of his life studing these rocks. It seems after having looked a the hoax website that they should get together with the 911 conspiracy people and have a good meeting out in the fresh air and come to realize that our government is completely unable to coverup something like this for so long.
