fraudulent billing

Not tractor related, but info I thought everyone needed.

My son received a bill from AFNI collection agency, claiming he owed Charter Communications (internet and tv provider) $1600 in past due bills, but it had been negotiated down to $837, and he should remit that to AFNI immediately. Since he didn't owe Charter any money, he did some investigating on the internet. AFNI has been sending out fraudulent collection letters all over the U.S., many of them to Verizon customers, even to families of deceased people. No mention of how they are getting the names and addresses of these companies customers. If you get a letter from them, refer it to local law enforcement agencies.

Had a similar problem a month and a half ago.

was told they were a collection agency and I owed them for music CD's that I didn't order or receive.

Wife had talked to him a couple days earlier ,and told me about it . I said the next time he calls I want to talk to him.

He called and the conversation that lasted a half hour ended up this way. after he was so determined to get a check by mail immediately .
{ he didn't get it either ] Also this gut had a very Oriental accent.}

Me, Sir What is your name?
He, Brian.
Me Brian What?
He, [Silence]
Me, I want to know your last name so My Lawyer or BBB can hash this out with you because I owe nothing for something I didn't receive.

Some reason unknown to me we lost contact and he has never called back ???

I would not be surprised if Charter is also a part of that scam. I have never had any Charter service, but several years ago, I had a handwritten note left on my door, along with a name on a card, that I owed them over 600 dollars.. I called the number and told them to sue me... Never heard another word from them..

POSSIBLY?? BUT IF IT WAS NOT SENT AS A REGISTERED LETTER, OR WAS NOT SINGED FOR , DID HE REALLY GET THIS NOTICE? JURY DUTY WORKS SAME WAY, THELL I DONT GIT HALF OF MY MAIL

I have been hit by two cities who have sent out bogus parking tickets, you can't trust anyone these days not even large cities looking for easy money.

I strongly suggest that your son request copies of his credit report. No doubt AFNI or Charter has placed a negative entry in his report.

Go to annualcreditreport.com for a free report from each of the big three reporting agencies.

Your son should contact his post office to see if this constiute's fraud. They may want to have their investigators to check it out. Could be a federal offense. Hal
