Professional Tractor Restoration

I am considering having my Dad's first new tractor (1946 Farmall H) proffessionaly restored. Have received an e-mail from our local club (Chapter 14) saying they are not aware of any proffessional restorers out here in California. Can someone direct me to a few good sources? Closer the better,
Thanks

I just finished one. Had over 4800$ in parts and materials. IF, I charged just 20$ an hour labor I would charge north of 9000 for the job. Doubt if you can get it done for less than 12k in CA. You ready for that?

Paul, I can get'm barking but I am not a restorer....wish I had those skills. If your advertising for the job it's yours. If that little H turned out half as good as any of your restorations, I would be a happy man!

Gordo, sounds like you have quite a thriving restoration business going. Maybe some of your satisfyed customers will offer a reference or two.

I know this tractor has sentimental value to you, but keep one thing in mind, once the professional restoration is complete, the tractor is still only worth what any other fine restoration is worth... another words, you'll never get the money back that you put into it.

If you can get`em barkin ya can do some sanding and paintin. Do the best ya can do yourself with dads tractor and it will be better than a pro job . It will mean alot more if you do it yourself . It`s dads tractor , dont just see how much money ya can throw at it . Most Tractors did`nt look pefect when they left the factory .

I know it isn't close, but Mark Woods here in Illinois is accepted to be tops when it comes to red paint. moseed's estimate isn't far off from what I have heard that Mark gets for a total bare casting rebuild.

Contact my email and I will send you contact information if you are interested.

John, Thanks for offering the contact information. The profile button did not get me onto your e-mail and niether did the personal message (pm) button. I think I can Google him up though. I appreciate this and any other restorer contacts folks might have.

lease send more restoration business I tried your profile button and then the personel messaging (pm) button to no avail. I'll Google up Mr. Woods in Illonois. Thanks for the tip.
I would still appreciate more options to investigate.
Thanks.

Dave, appreciate your outlook. This is not however my first Rodeo and I've never in thirty years of collecting thought I would ever get my money back, it's not why I do it. Having said that my 401-K is performing no better than my tractor investments.

Moseed. I don't do them for customers. I also have 8500 in an SMTA resto in the shop which I might get 8400 for.
I learned the business doing a few 2 seat Tbirds, then some 55-57 Chevs. Sold at near 6 figures, with half that in the project. After retirement I do the tractors as an avocation. The basic rule if you are doing your own machine is, pick the high dollar investment. The H is the bottom feeder.
You don't feel you can do the resto yourself. I'd say jack it up, remove the parts, do them yourself. Send the grill, hood, gas tank, fenders to a shop. The rest is not rocket science.
Anyone can paint cast iron.

I haven't talked to him lately, but the last time I did he had a significant waiting list. Still, he is the best in his particular specialty.

I haven't switched over to the new style forum, guess I'm just behind the times.

If you had your email open I'd give you a number but I'm not going to post it here without their permission.
