John: I agree with you. They have been calling
us and telling us they have free hookup, fast
internet service, if we have a clear view of the
southern sky, and what do we get? We get hooked up and the service man makes us sign to show he had hooked us up, they needed our credit card # so they could charge us $1 to activate our account. The reception was terrible during a rain storm and we lost viewing, couldn't watch baseball games, and alot of channels we wanted to add on would cost us $10 here and $10 there (and the internet service was very poor where we live; so, we decided to cancel. That's when the doo-doo hits the fan!!!! You can not cancel prior to a year's service or you have to pay the balance of your contract. We didn't realize we had a contract. We didn't authorize them to take the money from our debit card, but they did. It made our account overdrawn--causing several NSF charges at $30 a check. When we called, they said the signature we gave to show hookup was on the back of the contract. We were screwed!!!!

I have had much better luck with Direct TV than Dish network. had Dish for about 8 years, their service went down hill. I would never go back to Dish network. don't like their customer service at all.

I've had DirecTV for about 12 years now, no complaints. Fewer outages than we had with cable, and the two or three times I've called their customer service, they were very helpful.

I have had DirecTv for 13 years, and most of the time have had very good service.
Yes, there are occasional dropouts from heavy rains, but theses are VERY infrequent, and it would affect either Service provider.
I have a DVR, and believe me it save a tremendous amount of time watching a baseball or football game. I can see an NFL game in about an hour and half, and see every play.
With any service, you need to do your homework BEFORE you sign up....at least it will help you know what to ask.

John, we had the same trouble with DirectTV. We cancelled our service, not due to any problem, and the refund check was "always going to be sent soon". I just wanted to let you know that it finally did arrive - every penny that they owed us. It just took several months to show up. . .

We cancelled because the price kept going up, and we only used it for the bluegrass music channel. When they changed the music programming to XM Radio, we got an XM receiver and paid $12 per month instead of $65 or so. . .

Have patience,
Paul

I'm on Dishnet they updated my dish and now I don't get any rain outs only loose signal if the snow on the dish gets to heavy. If you have sat service you will get some rain outs and heavy snow does a nasty job on the signal but you are never out for more than a few minutes.

You have to pay to use a satelite dish? Guess I've been away too long...
Here, you go to the store (even a big box store) and buy a sat set. I paid a hundred bucks for the 2 ft dish with a 4 way LNB, 4 digital receivers, a sat. finder, and 50 meters of coax with 8 connectors. Analog is around half that. You go home and hook it up. You don't see antennas any more (very seldom). The Germans have to pay a tax based on how many radio's and TV's they have but it isn't much. Cable TV is a different story.
