I'm having ether a gopher or mole problem.Digging up my back yard and making a real mess.Would like to stop them before they do anymore damage.I have used amonia in the past ,but they werent this bad. anyone have ideas that have worked for you on the little critters, please let me know.............

Moles have runs that push up soil and go snaking across the yard. They eat insects and grubs primarily. so keeping burrowing insects out of the yard with a systemic insecticide once or twice a year will usually keep the moles out. Poison peanuts placed into the active runs will kill the existing moles (self burying).
If it is a Gopher/prairie dog, it will build mounds and establish a little city of burrows and it will be grass free on top. Piping lawn mower exhaust into one of the burrows will kill the slow ones, and chase out the fast. A repeater shot gun then delivers them into the future. JimN

I use Gordon's Mole & Gopher Killer poison pellets. Dig a little hole in their pathway and put the pellets in it then cover the hole back up. Make sure that your pets don't get in to it. I bought the stuff at Farm and Fleet.

In 2007 had a terrible mole problem. First stuck a couple of lit fusees down the hole. They loved it. Then my cousin gave me some PhosFume pellets that they fumigate grain bins with. The moles thrived on this stuff. They ate poison peanuts like candy. I ran the garden hose down the runs for hours, they learned to Scuba dive. Then I rigged up an adapter to the truck exhaust pipe, ran it down the holes for hours, you could even see fumes coming up from the runs, they thought it smelled "peachy". $20 mole trap was so tight and poorly made it wouldn't trip if the Tremors creature would have went underneath it.

Finally I gave up. I put down a triple dose of Lorsban granules this spring hoping to kill their grubs. Still have moles, maybe not as many.

We have had the best luck with mechanical traps.
Find a farm store and locate the Nash choker loop style trap-I caught 29 this year is different places on the farm-This will take care of the burrowing mole problem.
Now a gopher is a different story he simply piles up dirt in a conical pile-more difficult to catch.Ive used thr DK-1-stands for death clutch-and they work when properly used-6 gophers this year.
Good Luck. Either is a very resilient piece of pestolence trash and we have had great success with these maechanical traps-Try and google the ones ive told you about and will help paint the picture
Good Luck
