O/T: Engine swap, 89 Park Ave, 93 LeSabre

Here's the scenario: my almost ex-wife calls me today, crying and whatnot, bottom line is she wants me to take the engine out of the car she's driving(good engine, bad body) and put it in another car(better body, bad engine).

The two cars in question are a 1989 Buick Park Avenue(good engine, bad body) and a 1993 Buick LeSabre(bad engine, good body). Both are 3.8 V6, auto.

My question is will this work? Are these identical V6 engines? Any differences in the transmissions that will cause it to not bolt up? Any differences in electronics? Starter location? I looked at the '93 today, and a lot of the top end looked different. However, I didn't have both vehicles side by side for comparison. Any ideas and/or opinions are appreciated.

Thank you,

Anthony Nubel

The trans will bolt up - but you will find some differences in the electronics - the newer one most likely has the plastic upper plenum and some differences in the throttle body. Also the newer one has the electronically controlled 4T60E transmission - the older one has the plain 4T60 non electronic version - not shure if the differences between engines will effect trans operation? Might not be as easy of a swap as some would have you believe?

If the soon to be ex has a new boyfriend I would just let him figure it out. ;-)

Bare engine might be the same but all the other parts may have to be swaped including manifolds and everything else. Just got thru an engine swap on a Dodge Caravan with an engine that came out of a car and bare engine was same but everything else was different.
