Cat 955 Length

I have a customer wanting me to price him a pintle hitch, air brake equipment trailer to haul his Cat 955 tracloader on, how long a deck do I need? Will a net payload of 20 tons be enough?

What model 955 is it? They made a bunch ranging from 21,000 - 35,000 lbs and 15 ft - 2 in. to 17 ft-3 in. length.

One of the places I used to work had 2 of the good ol' D955K tack loaders. One had extra weight on it to bring its weight up to about 42,000 pounds, and it was wider than most D955Ks as it had wide tracks from Antarctica because the machine Had been used in Antarctica. The other D955K was about 40,000 pounds as I recall.

I've got a pamplet for a 955L around here somewhere. I think they weigh in around 32,000lbs. and maybe a little more depending on if they have a ripper or multi-purpose bucket etc. The 955L was the last model made before the 953 replaced it in the early eighties. Dave

I have a Cat 955 and it weights 27,000#. Load it on a 20 ton tilt tandam axel trailer. Pull it with a 92 Ford LTL, single axel semi truck. Combined weight is 56,000#. Loaded it a couple of times on a ramp trailer and did not like the load ride as it only has pads for tracks, too slick. Like the tilt a lot better, especially if you can load going down hill to lessen the degrees of climb.
