I can"t find 90 weight oilanywhere around here. Can I use 80-90 gear oil in transmission and trany fron wal mart?

Go over to the Ford section of the forum and do a search for transmission fluids. Lots of info there. I believe you can use either 80-90w gear oil, or Ford spec 134D trans/hyd fluid in the tranny (same as you put in the hyd sump). I use 134D in my transmissions.

I looked at a 640 Ford a couple of days ago and the motor had a loud chatter. Tractor ran well but noisy engine. The oil was dirty and the seller said he had oil I could have. He showed me a 5 gal can of 80-90 wt gear oil. He said that he runs it in all the tractor fuilds. The pressure showed ~45 psi. Couldn't tell if the noise was from the top end or bottom. I couldn't believe he was running gear oil in the motor. Is this to hide a bad motor or is that why I hear the Clatter? What are the correct fliuds for the 600 series and also for the flat head 8N. Thanks, wayne

I'm reading all this good advise about the fluids for the tran/hyd. but what about the engine oil. The seller
says he put 80-90 wt in the motor crankcase. Is this why I'm hearing a noisy motor and what is the correct MOTOR oil.
Thanks,
Wayne
