If you are near Omaha, there is a very nice Air and Space museum along I80-mile marker 426. It is VERY good. The Henry Doorly Zoo, in Omaha, is great, if that trips your trigger. Greg

Pioneer Museum, Harold Warp started it. It is open 9am to 4:30 winter hours. Well worth going, you CANNOT see it all in one day unless you just walk past everything at a steady pace. Would then go to Kearney and see the log arch that spans I80. There is also a Cabela's in Kearney if that interests you, the original Cabela's is in Sidney. North Platte is home to Buffalo Bill's Scouts Rest Ranch, Cody Railroad Museum, and more. Can fill you in on a lot more in Nebraska, and the front range of the Rockies from Pueblo CO to Cheyenne WY, just ask. DOUG

That Harold Warp museaum, that's a Mendon Nebraska right? The big ag museaum is at Bonner Springs Kansas, about 30 minutes west of KC.

There used to be a huge old tractor junk yard a Rocky Ford Colorado, that is in South Colorado I think.

Mount Rushmore, Rapid City SD
Lost of American history around Wounded Knee SD

Just thought of a couple more things you might like to see if you come up the Hwy 81, AKA I135 running thru Salina, enroute Minden, NE. Hebron NE is home to the Worlds Largest Porch Swing, next town north is Belvidere, NE. They are home to Thayer County Museum, for admission you stop at the gas station downtown and they will meet you up there and let you in. The Oregon Trail crosses Hwy 81 between Hebron and Belvidere. Can get you some phone numbers also if you want them. DOUG

Agricultural Hall of Fame is in Bonner Springs, Ks. about 20-30 minutes from Kansas City. Was there August of '07, plenty to see.
They have a website, maybe www.aghalloffame.com
???

We drove eight hours from NW IL to Minden NE two weeks ago just to spend two days at Pioneer Village. I had been there as a kid with my parents in the early 70s and have always wanted to return. If you are anywhere near south central Nebraska, it is well worth it

1a) The Eisenhower Presidential site in Abiline is a great place to spend a half day to a full day. Also there is a great local place for Lunch on the West side of town. Cannot remember the name.
1) There is a really good Italian food place in downtown Salina.
2) Be sure to stop in Colby Ks. We got snowed in there back in April and the entire town could not have been nicer folks!! Real fine Prairie history Museum there also.
3) Minden is a very good stop.
4) The Tractor test facility and Museum in Lincoln Ne. is a MUST STOP for anyone and everyone interested in tractors!!! If your better half is interested in Quilting they also have an outstanding exhibit. These two sites were better than CornHusker tickets on the 50 yd line for us!
5) Good history Museum in Grand Island, Ne.
6) We agree on the Zoo in Omaha- simply outstanding.
7) If you are at all interested in Railroads try out the exhibit center and tower at North Platte, Ne.
We have found Ne and Ks to be facinating places and we are darned glad so many dummies fly over.

NW Wi travelers.

Oops!
Neglected to include the Museum at Sterling, Co.
It is on the West side of I-76 and is a real surprise for a town that size. It has old machinery, old guns and a lot of exhibits on life syle in the old days.
Good stuff for the ladies also.

Dont know if this trips your trigger either, but if you make it up to Pioneer Village in Minden, there is the Great Platte River Archway Monument that goes across the interstate just east of the Kearney exit. Not sure on hours but I bet the people at Pioneer Village could tell you. Highway 2 that goes from Grand Island all the way up toward Alliance is a pretty scenic route out toward the Black Hills or Wyoming. It will take you through the Sandhills of NE. There are several scenic by-ways in central NE. (its surpring to many people that Nebraska isnt just flat and boring. The majority of the people in the central U.S. are pretty friendly so just ask around as there are many little local things that are really interesting. I guess the best advice I can give is to stay off of the interstate as much as possible.

There's the Farmall-land USA muesum in Avoca, Iowa (http://www.farmall-land-usa.com/photo.html). It's all Farmall all the time. And there is the Heartland Museum in Clarion, IA (http://www.heartlandmuseum.org/). Never been to either one.

In Kansas City,Mo,in the City Market area, there is a museum of the steamboat Arabia that sank in the 1800s by Parkville,Mo.They dug it up in the 1980s and moved it to the museum where its at now.816-471-4030 is the phone number for information.Look it up on the internet they have a video that describes it.They have lots of stuff that they got off of the boat, guns, clothes, food, just about anything a pioneer would use.Kind of interesting.
