John deere R Injection Pump

Can anybody tell me if the Injection Pump on a 53 JD R can be turned up, or is there anything I can do to boost the pressure without going to a electric pump.

First of all there is one injection pump for each cylinder there is a supply pump that supplies the fuel to the injection pump. Which one do you mean and have you checked the pressure on your supply pump?

No I have not put a gauge on it yet. I dont know about the injection pump, but from what i understand is the transfer pump can be sanded down and mic it for clearance, also at the injection pump you can replace the shems to block off the return. I have never done this and I am looking for more information about it before I do try to do this, but the people that know arent telling. So I turned to here to try and find out. There isnt a book on how to beef up your tractor.

If you have a supply of spare crankshafts and deep pockets go ahead.
The two bearing R crank won't take the abuse a three bearing 80,820,830 or 840 crank can handle.

it wont do any good to increase pressure above 25 lbs or so. the presure pump is only to make sure the injection pump is full for its next shot of fuel. as you can't compress a liquid into a smaller state once the pump is full, it's full. now if you were going to run fuel system at 4 or 5000 rpm an increase in presure may be needed to keep pumps full but if you are going to do that I want to be a least a state away:0).Paul

Sanded down ? I don't think so. It could be ground however, but the result of that would be to cut down on its transfer pumping capacity. It would have no effect on the output of the two injection pumps. The only way is to reset the rack and take the advice already given and don't change it.

If you take the injector cover off and look down, on the governor side, you will see the "Rack"..it has numbers on it..
Original setting is "10" at full throttle.
Set it at 15 to 17
17 will really go BLACK on the track, about the time the front gets light..!
If it is a sound engine, it will stand up to it, if not...
A friend's will idle with 4x16" plow in alfalfa..!!
Just DON'T take the side cover off the governor..or you will learn how to re-assemble it..!
The TOP cover has to come off...!!
