OT/ Dodge tire size

I have this '98 Dodge 3500 dually that I bought about a year ago. Does anyone know what rear tire width it needs? It had 235/85-16 on the rear and I replaced them with the same size, but the new ones touch each other. Of course I didn't notice it unitl I had driven it a day, and the kid at the tire shop didn't notice it either, but I'm not blaming him. The tag is not on the door post and the owner's manual is worthless so I'm kind of groping for answers here. Something tells me it needs 225's or at least something narrower, but I'd like to talk to someone who knows a little about this truck. I never did look to see if the old ones touched, but now it looks like I should have. Jim

If you go to tire rack dot com and use the drop down menus it will tell you the proper size that the truck came from the factory with.

Thanks, Greg. Went to Tire Rack and found out I need 215/85's. That's quite a difference.

The reason for replacing them is the sidewall blew out of three little holes on the side facing the other tire. The puzzle is coming together quickly now. I called the previous owner and he said he had put two or three sets on it. He said tires didn't seem to last long enough on this pickup. Well I wonder why!!!

I'm headed back to the tire shop Monday to see if I can work out a deal. Oh, by the way, the new ones are Wranglers$$$$$ Jim

According to the bennett- Garfeild tire guide, you should have a LT215/85r16 on it. 70 psi front, 65 psi rear.

I have the same truck. '98 3500 4x4 Diesel with duals.

I run the 235's but use a spacer. Goto eBay and buy a set for around $20. Get the thickest set. I think they are 3/8". Maybe 1/2". Can't remember. You will have enough stud length.

I put 7000 lbs on the truck last summer. The tires didn't touch.

put you some Michelin all steel on there, they will stand up..The side walls are steel also...ran them on a 86 chevy one ton..tried cooper they blow out on sidewalls, never had it happen with Michelin's and I was carrying over 12000 lbs all the time..

MAY GOD BLESS THE USA
