Just got back from response to car crash call. Car stopped to make left turn, rear ended by car with four teenagers. Fortunately only one hurt bad. Don't let your teens carry passengers under 21 for first year!

Tell your teenagers they can have their car keys or their cell phone, but not both at the same time.

Several years ago, my wife was involved in a head-on collision caused by a 17 year old girl talking on a cell phone. Thanks to the air bag and seat belts, my wife walked away from it.

The gal that caused it got her face and an arm messed up, so she has visible scars to remind her of her stupidity.

At the age of 8, 9, and 10. I was in a car wreck! At the age of 21, I was in a car wreck. And at the age of 30 was in my last wrecks... Once in the A.M. to work and again in the P.M. comming home from work. Now that one was hard to explain to the insurance co. NONE WERE MY FAULT thank GOD!!! BUT, I LEARNED MY LESSON!!! I will not leave the house on my BIRTHDAY... So far, 9 years no wrecks!!TRUE STORY and lots of love from above! Larry

I just returned from a truck full of 17 year olds that were trying to see how fast they could get the family Ford Ranger going. Well, it hit 100. Then it drifted off the road into soft ground, was over corrected, spun around for 430 feet. Then it rolled and ended up on its side after sliding 250 feet. During the process, it hit a tree, , a ditch, a pole and a mailbox post that made a perfect impression of a 4x4 post in the bed. The truck reminds me of a horse shoe shape. Another group of teenagers that need to have their license placed in a cookie jar until they hit a responsible age.

The new teen driving problem is texting while driving. Last summer I saw a girl whom I hadn't seen for a year, and she had scars all over her face with glass still working itself out.I felt kind of uncomfortable asking her what happened but I found out she rear-ended a truck while she was texting. Seems like I see more cars drifting over into the other lane or onto the shoulder today and I assume it's primarily because of a texting driver. Jim

They had a bad accident on the bypass around the town. There were 3 cars involved 2 were hit head on, 2 were killed and 6 injured. They drive on it likes its the Interstate. Not sure how the 3rd car was involved. Hal
PS: They had 3 medivac choppers at the crash scene.

Nebraska has what"s called a "provisional operators permit". It"s good for drivers between the ages of 16 and 18.

Among other things, the permit only allows operation of a vehicle from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (there are provisions if the person is going to or returning from a job or school late). The driver also cannot operate any form of electronic communication device while driving. During the first six months the person has the permit, they cannot operate a motor vehicle with more than one non-family member under the age of 19 in the vehicle.

Although I hate the thought of more government intrusion into our lives, I have to admit that teens killing themselves and others on our roadways has become a problem. Within the last couple weeks, three teens were killed nearby when the car they were in (being illegally driven by a 15 year old) spun into the path of an oncoming pickup on a gravel road.

Both of my Grandkids grew up on a farm in Nebraska they both got their license when they were 14, so far they seem to be pretty good drivers.

My first accident was on a freeway I was doing 55 to 60 and a car pulled right in front of me and then stopped I learned a real good lesson that day and had a scar on my lung to remind for years to come.

In Oregon a few years back they made it harder on the kids by limiting their friving privileges,
So it ain't working one bit. I think they need to buy their own car to learn what it will cost when they do have an accident.

here in WI, you get a probationary liscense for the first 9 months you have it. can only carry 1 passenger that is NOT immediate family, plus i think you get more then normal points taken away if you get say...a seatbelt or speeding ticket. i wouldn"t know i guess. it"s cheaper to wear my seatbelt and do no more then 3 over the limit in my eyes.

A 17 year old recently (1 month) died from a car crash. There were 3 other teens in the vehicle with him and from what I heard it was having fun and the driver was trying to show off to the other three. Just what I heard though. Up here I think there are rules about passengers outside of the immediate family but I'm not sure if that's a G1 or G2 thing. Cell phones and chatting, looking behind them and talking, eating, and drinking(non-alcholic) causes alot of the problems. The other problem is that they think they have the driving experience of a 40 year old. There are now laws against using cell phones and hand held devices while driving but that doesn't do a whole lot. There's no doubt that there are alot of exceptions to this. Some teens are excellent drivers but it's the idiots that get noticed.
