O/T: Farm Truck Tires

I was just wondering what you guys thought would make a good farm truck tire. I kinda leaning towards the BFG All Terrain or Mud Terrain. It has to come in 33x12.50r16.5 so that limits a lot of my choices. Thanks in advance for the help. JaredM.

I recently did a tire test in Baja with BFG on the new Mud Terrain and it is a truly outstanding tire- much more road worthy than it's appearance would indicate. But...the difference in price between the All Terrain and the Mud Terrain is pretty steep.
With all of the OE 8 lug wheels out there now, you could probably get into a set of 16" wheels cheaply- and a 285/75-16 size would open up a pile of options in name brand and privates that you won't find with a 16.5

Those tires wear good on the road too. I got 55 thousand out of 33-12.50 BFG all terrains. My only complaint for a farm tire the sidewalls were too soft for carrying heavy loads and trailering. I had the 15 inch tires though on an old pickup so maybe a 16.5 would be better.

I have sold hundreds and after the first set everyone buys another, Wild Country, Wild Spirits, different names but built and owned buy TCB corp. Brands too look for are Multi/Mile and Cordovan. It has been 6 years now but the price was $130.00 for 33.12.50-16.5R I`m sure they have gone up sense then by $10.00.

You must not haul heavy loads off of your farm. My small farm truck uses 9.00-20 and the big ones wear 11.00-22.5. We run about 85 psi. My favorate pickup, a 1973 IH 4X4 3/4 ton with a 392, uses 8.25 X 16.5. Those are hard to come by, bought the last set from some recaper company in the Black Hills. Took my drivers test in that pickup in 1976. It must get 100 miles a gallon. No check that, I ment 100 miles a tank. It will out pull a 3020 JD tractor, easy, or it it did one day. Runs great, it is not for sale.

Hay Chris, I also have a 1973 IHC 1210 4x4 3/4ton, but I have the 345ci. The tires are smooth, which I use to pack down dirt/gravel. First truck I every bought myself. It is one running truck. Yep got the 16.5 tires.

never seen an 8.25 x 16.5, only old 8.75x 16.5 and 9.50 x 16.5 bias. Still got a few 8.75s in the warehouse...

Yep, mine is a 1210. I always tell my passangers these babys were build for speed, not comfort. Don't drive it much, but have had tons of fun in that old truck. Lots of memories. Had my first romantic experience on its seat. Do you know where I can get one of those heat riser valves that go between the exhaust manifold and the pipe. Mine is broken and the local IH truck dealer is no help. That pickup will pull a 3 bottom plow

This is a 95 f250 4x4 5spd 351W with 4.10 gears so it pulls decent, mostly gonna pull trailers of hay, but i dont know if it'll out pull a 3020, especially with bald tires. I went to Red Power RU when it was in Mansfield, OH and those 3/4 ton IH trucks sure are cool. Back to the tires though GF's dad is giving me polished aluminum wheels for the truck and 33" is the tire on them now. I do have the stock wheels and want to put cooper s/t on them for winter. I guess my main question is if a mud tire is really that much better than an all terrain in a muddy field.

HAD A SET OF MUG KING TIRES YEARS BACK,,SAME TREAD DESIGN AS BFG'S , MORE PLIES AND ACTUALY HAD LITTLE HOLE STARTED IN THE TREAD TO PUT IN STUDS, ANYBODY REMEMBER THEM DAYS, GREAT TIRE BUT DONT KNOW IF THE A STILL AVAIL, ANYWAYS B-4 YOU INVEST IN TIRES MAKE SURE THEM FANCY ALUM RIMS WILL FIT OVER THEM BIG A''S BRAKES ON YOUR
250,,, I BOUGHT A 16INCH SPARE AT A AUCTION AN
WOULD NOT CLEAR ON DADS 2001 CHEV HALF-TON ???

Mud Kings are still available gf's dad has them on the field trucks (he runs a nursery)but he told me he likes the BFG muds for his daily driver work truck. Hadn't thought about the brakes. The wheels are on a '88 f250 right now but mine is a 95 f250hd with a bigger axle so I will have to make sure they'll fit.

Bill, if you ever had the all terrains in mud and how did they worked and how deep was the mud.
