White smoke

I have a Continental F162 motor that wont start, but I'm getting white smoke coming out of the carb and the exhaust when turning over. Could this mean the timing is off, or a bad valve? I do have spark at the new plugs and the carb does flood easily. Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello 550 Doug.
White smoke is usually water or antifreeze, does it have a sweet smell?(ANTIFREEZE).
I would check compression, if to adjacient cylinder are much lower than the rest of the cylinders, that would indicate a blown head gasket......good luck.

Sounds like its just flooding, instantly, before engine has a chance to start. Carb needs attention.

I think its flooded real bad. Also if it has an oil bath air cleaner it would be a good time to see if its full of water maybe?Might want to pull a plug and see if its firing good or wet with gas.Pull the air cleaner pipe if it has one first, then hold it wide open with the choke open if it has one,and see if it tries to hit.Thats what I would do.
