10si alt on Deutz diesel

A horn? "I am not trying to be funny" Are you far away from the unit? Will a warning alarm work such as a loud buzzer or a high pitch back-up alarm (like on big trucks) work? Larry

Assuming you have a 110 supply at the site, use a photo cell to switch a optically coupled relay with a horn in the circuit, and the sensor taped to the idiot light used to excite the 10si. JimN

Hi Rich,

I would think that under a normal maintenance schedule that belt(s) breakage would be minimum. You must have extreme operating conditions?

That being said, it really doesn't matter what sensor you choose, there's several options available, you will need a manual N.O latching relay alarm circuit.

This would be for when the belt(s) broke and took out the sensor at the same time, the alarm circuit would still be energized until manual reset.

The reason it wouldn't matter what sensor type you used is because when the belt breaks it will remove the sensor at the same time.

Not to be dumb but don't the Deutz have a plunger that shuts the fuel pump off immediately if the belt tensioner goes slack. I thought I had remembered that from years back???????? mEl

I assume this is an air cooled engine. As mEL says, I though Deutz had a safety cut out. If you have an idiot light on the dash to show no charging (if the alternator stops), can you tap into this wire going through a switch and a relay to trigger the horn when it comes on?
We had a tractor once that had been used on an irrigation pump. It was fitted with a devise called an ‘engine saver’ or something like that. It was a box that monitored oil and temperature, and would cut the engine out if it reached set limits. It was a fairly simply, with a spring loaded plunger that you had to re-set. Maybe you need something like that.

Actually.. a wire from the alternator #1 terminal, to a NC relay coil, the other side of the coil to ground.. one side of switch to battery. toehr side to load ( horn).. Make the connection to the #1 line between the alternator and the isolation diode.. any 3a/200piv diode will work.. ( cathode toward alternator )

Use a toggle switch inline with the horn as a cutoff/disarm for when the engine is not running.

Start the engine.. then flip the switch to on ( closed ).. power from #1 opens the relay contacts.. if the belt breaks and the alt stops putting out power, then the relay closes and the horn blows til the battery is dead or you flip the toggle switch.

mEL hit the nail on the head, certain models of Deutz engines had a switch on the fan belt tensioner that would shut the fuel off when the tensioner goes slack............perhaps that type of tensioner assy. can be installed on your engine............some checking with your local Deutz dealer will answer that question.........

No sense making it any more complicated than it has to be..............
