HELP i have a super m and i have had to have the starters rebuilt 5 times to date. I put the new starter on and it starts right up, but after a few starts it will spring the spring inside..(twist it) I am ready to give up on this one..

any help would be appreciated.

Are they useing the right bendix? I have seen some bendix with straight teeth, and some with slanted teeth. I am not familar with the super M setup , I am just throwing ideas to see if it will help... Larry

does your starter have the correct spring? some starter springs are wound the oposite way. they look ok but are wrong.you could be putting on the wrong one. been there and done that.

there is a new style bendix available, case i-h should have em, if not you can get them from steiners, part number ihs132 for 39.49. external_link. one other thing, pull the starter and check the ring gear on the flywheel, see if the teeth are good.

I'm with Roy, It would be very easy to get the wrong spring. Recently I was at a local rebuilder and a farmer brought a M starter in that wouldn't engage. After exploration, another rebuilder had put the wrong fields/ armature in it and it was running backwards! mEl
