I think my car is being stuck in high grear. It is stalling on me when i come off the freeway and i have to stop at stop signs in town. HOw do i get it from being stuck??? and how expensive is it to fix?? If it sits over night and then i drive it around town it doesnt seem to do it...
Thank you.

Does your check engine or service engine soon light come on?

Unfortunately, it could be a variety of things. Best to have a repair shop put a scanner on it. If it's truly sticking in gear, it could be the torque convertor clutch switch sticking, it could be a glitch in the body control module, that or the engine control module, whichever one controls the transmission.

Or, the engine could be stalling without having anything to do with the transmission. And one of any number of sensors could be causing that.

To try to diagnose it on the board here is simply shooting in the dark.

It sounds like your Torque converter clutch is not disengaging when it gets hot. This was a common problem for those cars, especially the ones with the 3 speed automatic. If yours has the 3 speed, you can disconnect the electrical connector on the side of the tranny and drive it a few days to see if it will stop acting up. If that is the case, you will need to remove the side cover of the trans and replace the TCC solendoid. It's usally a pretty easy fix and not too expensive, if you're not afraid to get a little dirty. Any decent mechanic ought to be able to fix it for you without a terrible expense. Last one I did cost the customer about $100, but that was a few years ago.
Good Luck and God Bless.
