Planting Wheat on the Kansas Plains.

This is a picture of my father planting wheat for the K & O Steam & Gas Engine club in 2008. The drill is a little to big for his 50 John Deere but speed is not the important thing here. He is pulling the DFC drill he bought new in 1969.

Where at in Kansas is that? I pent a lot of time in Kansas working for the KDOT Highway Construction Inspection Department.
That's a nice looking piece of ground, but I've seen some guys planting wheat in what looks like a driveway, from all the rocks in it. Looks like he had fun!

Dachsund, funny you should ask about the location. You probably have seen it. It is the field just across the road from the KDOT Dept. in Winfield Ks. The Walnut river near Winfield is the dividing line between the Great Plains and The Flint Hills. This is on the Great Plains side, no rocks.

As for tractor shows??? My 2 favorites are the Winfield show in August and the Caney show in June. There are several good ones including Gossel, Haviland and the 2 Cyld. Swap Meet in Wichita.

Yeah, I've been through Winfield a bunch of times!
Pretty country down there.
I stopped at a place east of there - Grenola - and ate at "The Grenola Bar". It's been close to 20 years ago, though. If I remember, there is an old mill in another town close to Winfield, too.

There is a real good show in Ottawa, Kansas about the first of September. Many engines and tractors.
