What is a fair rate to get a engine shipped from SC to TX. I have never bought a tractor part this size (6 cly. IH 282 complete engine) and just seeing if it will be worth driving to SC and back , or if shipping is the way to go... and I have a lot more time than money.. Thanks in advance!! D.G.

You should be able to get it done professionally for around 500....you may want to try u-ship.com...I suspect there may be some money to be saved there.

Good Lord, from TX to SC and back?? What do you think that would cost you? Much, much more than you can get it shipped for. I get a lot of work from UShip.com, as I'm in transportation. I would think you should be able to get that done for well under $500. UShip is a place where you can make a listing for your job, and transportation companies will bid on it. Be patient and you'll get a really good price.

I had several quotes through Uship to have a full size 4x4 pickup from OH to Germany for $2200-2500, so a motor across a couple of States should be much better.

Good Luck,

Dave

I'm wishing I'd have driven 45 miles the other day to pick up a part. Had to order a $120 steering arm from A&I through Worthington. I told them to drop ship it to me via UPS next day saver instead. That little bugger cost me $65 shipping!

I have used FedEx freight with good results. It will cost more to ship an engine (per pound) than it does steel weldments! That's just the way it is...

Have you checked the hauling board on this site? An engine could be tucked into most any load, I would think, and someone should give you a good deal, since it would be "gravy".
