it cost alot to fix those old dogs but I like mine and more people are throwing them away as was suggested to you (I think this site has them in a complete kit but it has been a while since I looked)

Another JD built in either Davenport or Dubuque, Don't remember which. JD closed the plant, fired all the engineers, and now more than 50% of the parts are no longer available. Three years ago I put over $2200 in rebuild parts and my labor in a 2010 engine, plus a rebuilt hyd pump, and still don't have a tractor I can use. Everyone told me buy John Deere, you can always get parts. Yeah, right. Should have stayed with Red paint. Anyone need a good engine? LE

Wrong wrong,wrong and common knowledge.
Neither Davenport or Dubuque were closed. The engineers were not fired either. Try finding parts at the counter for the red paint tractors cira 1960. Deere still has more.
Anybody heard of red tractors with torn up TA's and final drives?
If you had asked around here or anywhere else. They would have told you to stay away from the orphan 1010/2010.
Sorry that YOU didn't do your homework first.
Deere had the sense back then to drop the model rather than trying to polish a t*rd.

Rob,

Don't understand. Why wouldn't ya buy a 966 with a blown T/A? Probably the cheapest horsepower on the planet.

If memory serves me right, that 1010 used the same engine as a 40 combine. If you can find one of those, you could probably buy the whole engine for a song. Most likely would be quite low hour too.

I got one came in last month with a bad motor, and a loader...we are currently parting it out. Not worth the labor and the parts.

Don't want to bust your bubble ,, but be Careful , if You have not researched this model ... Most guys dispised the 1010 ..and the 2010 must have thought it was still in the 2 cylindar line-up ,,, All I ever saw had to Constantly have plugs changed ,, Brother parted out a weak sick calved 1010 ,,

Allan,

Tongue-in-cheek of course.

Looking close at your pic, its clear the reason your tractor runs so well, it has John Deere front rims on it.

This is coming from a guy with 2 Fords and 2 ACs.

You can just get a cheap and easy repair by going out and buying a 45 Deere combine and using that. The 145 engine and the 165 engine will both fit right in, give you a lot mower power and they were a very good engine. problem was the diesel engines, not the gas. Without looking at the tag no body could tell you had a replacement engine in that tractor except by putting a load on it and walking away with the load that people think the tractor could not handle.
