Allis Chalmers 190XT

Hey guys , I am going to look at a 190XT Diesel in the next few days , please give me some input as to the pros and cons of these particular tractors. Haven't had a lot of experience with these.

The one thing I didn't like about them was that they didn't have live power as most of us know it. You had to stop it by putting the high/low range shift into neutral. If you pushed the clutch in,the PTO stopped. I always thought that was pretty backwards for such a new tractor.

My Dad bought one that was about a year old; we had a 4020 or two, but the dealer was a friend and we had a lot of A-C equipment. I spent a couple of days building pre-emerge racks for it and we carried it to the field; it was the same HP as the 4020s and pulled the same implements at the same speed. We were used to having 2 'oils' in the JD; engine and trans/hyd; don't remember how many different ones the A-C had, but it was more than that and we couldn't keep the oils separated. After carrying it back to the dealer about a half-dozen times, he finally offered to take it back; we bought another 4020; possible we may have just got a lemon.............

Good big tractor at almost 100HP. Problem area on them is jumping out of gear so when you test drive it try all the gears and be sure you throttle up and down in each to make sure it doesn't jump out of one of the gears. I had one a few years ago and loved it but it was just plain to big for my farm so I sold it

Is it a Series III? If not, if it has been maintained well, the engines are usually good for their age, but the transmission and rearend are not strong enough for the power. BTDT Wayne

as has been stated, the rear ends are weak. I have a neighbor who couldn"t keep ring gears in his....set up per the book, it"d wear the teeth down sharp as razors.

First two series had factgory updates for the rear ends- Series III was ok.. Dealer should b e able to id if the updates were done on the early ones. 93 pto hp.
