I found an IH 574, Gas, w/IH 2250 QT Loader. It has a cab w/heat. Mechanically A1, 3200 hours, paint is fair/good. I found it here in WI. Asking $8600 & wondering if this is the right price for for me to buy it!?! Can anyone tell me positives or negatives about a 574 gas? Things to look for? Thanks in advance!

I guess a big question would be what are your intentions for it? I have used one many times during haying season and had no problems. Can be a pretty thirsty tractor though. For that money it really better be in A-1 condition.

Just wanted something for pushing snow and maybe some odd jobs around the farm. Would a diesel be better? Any problems with either gas/diesel?

This would be a great tractor for those purposes. If you are using it a lot in the winter the gassers sure do start better.

We have had one in a diesel since new in 1972.
It has been a good and bad tractor the engine has been bullet proof as far as durability. The hydraulics now that has been another matter. Brakes and steering have been a constant battle to keep working. With many farmer modifications they both work quite well now. The front spindles are to light for a loader. It is hard to beat for manuverability in tight spots with that swept back front axle. Now we used it hard on a dairy till the last 15 years now it does a lot of hay handling in the summer. For just occasional use it would be fine probably. You want to get the external pump on it for the loader or it will be slower than molasses in the winter for loader movement.
