Tractor Battery

I have a heavy duty tractor battery that does not take charge although it is a newer battery that sat unused all of last year. When I was charging it today I noticed the second cell was not bubbling at all but all the others were.Is this a sign of a dead cell? Is this battery of any further use to me?

New batteries that have set without charging on a regular basis will totally discharge, and will not take a charge in many cases.Yes I would say the cell that dosent bubble is a dead cell, and battery is a lost cause. From my experience in the battery business.

If it aint bubling probably is a bad cell. You could check with a battery hydrometer but i would say its bad. I get around 5-6 yrs life with the 6v ones.

Car etc batteries go bad quite quickly if not kept charged; if one isn't going to be used put it on a trickle charger or just fire up the unit once a month or so (summer) or once every couple weeks or so (winter) and run long enough to get engine good and warm (to avoid excess condensation in engine from short runs).
If lots of electronics may need to do more often as they may Good luck.have a continuous but small draw.

Sometimes if you hook them up and run them +to+ and-to- they will come out of it and be ok again. If a cell is completly dead it may discharge the good battery while setting so you may need to unhook one cable if it is going to sit for a while. I would try this before pitching it.

Thank you for this advice (+to+ and -to- hookup),I will give it a try!
Seems a shame to pitch a practically new battery, but this very well may be the end result!
