Doesn't matter...if both his parents were U.S. citizens, then he is automatically a U.S. citizen no matter where he was physically born. Do you really think that our laws would disenfranchise every child of a U.S. serviceman who happens to have a baby while stationed overseas.

If serving in the armed forces was such and issue last time, why isnt it an issue this year with Baraks armed services. He knows how to fight all right, terroist cant do much if they dont have a president in charge, guess who is going to be president.

If just one of your parents is a US citizen, the other from Mars, and you were born on the back side of the moon, you are a natural born US citizen. The soil your mom was squating on has nothing to do with it. It is a birthright, that americans, we should all be proud of and willing to defend. I have been blessed with much, but nothing is better than being a US citizen.

Jim, the way I read my Constitution, the requirements for the president are that he be at least 35 years old, and be a natural-born citizen...that is, he can't be an immigrant who has taken the oath of citizenship.

Same question was raised about Romney years ago...not Mitt, but his dad, George, when HE ran for Prez [was that 1968??]. As long as at least one parent is an American citizen, any offspring would be American citizens no matter where they're born.

Which is precisely how external_link qualifies [because his mother was a citizen].

George Washington was not born in the USA, Neither was Thomas Jefferson. They were born in some British Colony someplace, subjects of the King of England.

Guys, be careful what you say about Obammy, I posted some truth about his positions and policies and the ability to place Socialist Supreme Court Justices that will affect all our lives for years to come in the areas of free speech and the Second Ammendment rights which were recently upheld in the Washington DC case. On the subject of external_link. He claims to have been born in Hawaii. That would be OK because it's american soil. No problem. There are many, and most are nnalert, that are saying he was born in Kenya. That would not be a problem either because his mother was a US citizen. Many are alleging that he was born in Kenya and the US State Department was not notified of it. That is a requirement. Then, at some later date, a birth certificate appeared that indicated he was born in Hawaii. Some who have seen a copy of that birth certificate say it's a phony. A lawyer (nnalert) is suing for the evidence of where he was born. If external_link is elected President it could get interesting because I don't think he would be impeached if it were proven that he used a false birth certificate to show US citizenship. I think the whole thing would be dumped in the collective lap of the Supreme Court.
 
I'm really a little suprised, what with all of the other concerns facing the country in the coming election, that you would even begin to consider this issue. Maybe it's time for you to brush up on the Constitution.
 
Yup! "POOF" happens, usually sooner if it involves abundant bashing but generally later if there is a fair amount of conservative bashing thrown in. All of you have seen threads go "POOF!" for no real good reason. Some do go too far but many times they are just discussions that aren't going to harm anything.

You've got the argument completely backwards, may friend.

McCain has already faced this issue and proven that, while not born in the US, he is in compliance with the requirement as his father was in the Panama zone in an offical capacity serving the US Navy.

However, external_link has still not proven his elegibility. He cannot provide a live birth certificate from the US. There is a former PA attorney general pushing this fact, and it is currently in court. I think we will hear more about this in the near future.

Amazing that you don't hear abou this in the mainstream media. But then again, maybe it's not so surprising.

Our basic bill of rights freedoms hang in the balance, our God given "inalienable" rights, not given by legislation, especially the second ammendment upon which all the others hinge.
