Wyoming Bentonite

Kinda went over-kill on my repair job, but it sure cured that leaking stock tank.

Wonder if the $6.29 vs $300 for a new tank had anything to do with it? :>)

Allan - Bentonite is an amazing product (clay). I built a underground home in 1980-83. I used three varieties of the stuff to perform specific water sealing tasks. Used the beads (as in your picture) as a three inch covering on an almost horizontal concrete roof (100' X 32'), used a trowel grade on the vertical walls (covered with thick visqueen), and used a caulking grade to seal all concrete to concrete joints (post tensioned). Still have about fifty 50# bags of the granular left. NO leaks at all in 25 years.

The granular works real good in sealing leaks in ponds, too. Just pour in on the water and it gravitates to the leaks and seals (probably work on a tank also).

On the next job on a tank (if empty) you may want to consider the trowel or caulk grades to seal those leaky seams (either will stay in place a little better than the granular so it will have time to swell and seal). bob farrell

How long does it take for a stock tank to rust a hole in it in that dry climate?

Speaking of climate, the national weather map yesterday showed lows in the 20s for you out there. A little ice on the windshield here is all so far.

What is it with these stock tanks. They don't last like they used to. couple of years and they rust out..Cheap coating???

I dunno.

Think this one is probably at least 50 years old.

Looking back, I cleaned it out 5 years ago. Has a cement floor and I was probably digging out bentonite at that time.

Been leaking ever since anyhoo. :>)

It's the aliens. I see a hand print in the left lower center bottom that has an extra finger on it.

By the way, where can you find bentonite and these caulk grade stuff anyway.

What is it with bentonite and the EPA? Ran a crane on a big river bore rig a couple of years and they wouldn't allow any spills whatsoever.
