diesel fuel pump questions

Hi DG,

It will for awhile. No2 has a higher viscosity than gasoline so it'll be harder on the pump thus shorting the pump life.

You just can't go from a diesel rated pump to gasoline on most pumps. They don't have the explosive rating for gasoline.

Thanks for the reply T_Bone! Its just a small pump "about 4.5-6.0 PSI" I just hope its not to much pressure to mess up the injection pump, what do you or any one else think? it has a mech. pump on it but I am not sure if the mech.pump is good or not? when I pulled the oil pan off to check out the crank shaft dammage, the oil seemed very thin, since then, I put a crank kit in it and I am almost ready to fire it off and just dont want to make the mistake that the previous owner did... no more money to buy a mech. pump at this moment, but just want to hear the engine run.. Circus, It is a lift pump, the electric pump is (4.5-6.0 PSI),. How much pressure can a injection pump handle before messing up?

On my old diesel the lift pump diaphram leaked fuel and I saw no features stopping fuel from leaking into the engine. The electric pump creates only 1-2 lbs. though.

That is the reason I am wanting to put a electric pump on mine, at least for the moment.. I just built the lower part of the engine today,(well yesterday now) just to check out the old machine and see how she works...

I don't forsee a problem. I've got a few rigs here that are fitted with electric lift pumps from the factory. They're all low pressure like that...

Our old TD-9 ran at 55 psi to the injection pump, i would be more concerned having too little pressure. I use a 12v gas pump like you're looking at to transfer from one tank to another, never had any problem.
