life isnt so bad

Beans are almost out, about 2 rounds left, rain moved in too soon last night, didn't get the yield I had hoped for, but it was very cool and dry during critical bean growing days. Corn can go anytime, down to 16%. Should yield good. My calves have all made it to the weaning stage, no losses this year, cows are all bred, bull can go back down the road. Wife lost 11#'s off an already fine looking body. Chickens are laying great for the age. My back hasn't bothered me since I "corrected" it trying to lift that 10' tie out of the hole. My Oliver started this am in 28 degrees with no assistance. Kids are happy and healthy. My brother in law is looking for a true "starter" home for his new fiance, not a new one, a fixer upper. Life just isn't so bad if I just do not watch the news. Hate what is happening in all the branches of government, but right here, right now, all is well!

Dave;

That is a good upbeat report. It should get people off to a good start for the week.

It is good here in the south of NM not too far from the Rio Grande. The producers are done cutting silage. They have been harvesting cabbage and chiles and cutting alfalfa. Next will be cotton and pecans.

At least,I dont have to shovel snow, split firewood or go out on a cold winter night and check the cows.

Sure would like to have some of those pecans. They raise a lot of them in AL too. Sell them at stands like they do tomatoes and sweetcorn here.

I spent about a month at Huntsville in Nov 1981 for the government monitoring a test. Went to many catfish lunches where you could get all you could eat and had pecan pies sitting around for dessert. I bought one to bring home too.

In Feb 1982 I had to go back and I took my wife along. We called back home to see how our daughter was getting along and she had been out shoveling snow off the driveway so she could get to work. She's a Nurse Practitioner. It was in the 90's in Huntsville and I had buy some short sleeve shirts. Huntsvile and Tulsa OK were two of the nicest places I had travel to. Hal

Yup, life ain"t so bad. Hayfield yielded about 20 bales more than I will need; baled 45 4x5 rounds of clean bahaia off an area of the farm that had never been baled before, baled 26 4x4 rounds of clean bahaia off another area of the farm that had never been baled before, all the JDs are running good, weather is spectacular (warm sunny days, cool nights, low humidity) and my wrist is healing as well as can be expected. I"ll be glad when its back 100% and I can play with my horse and work on the farm.

Most important - James and I are healthy and closer than ever.

All the firewood here is ranked waiting for the real cold, working on next years supply now. Hay is in short order but I have enough for me and my base customers. I'm healthy, and we're so busy at work, I still haven't got to my 2007 vacation time.

Sisters got a bunch of animals ready for fall butchering and enough laying hens that the whole family will be eating tripple omelets every meal.

Canadian dollar has fallen enough the local pulp mill might be able to sell pulp again so all the logging neighbours may be able to get back in the woods this winter. Now if I can convince more people to burn wood instead of oil, they'd be even better off.

You obviously haven't been reading the papers or watching the news or you would realize that we are all going to be living in caves and eating bugs by Christmas.

Actually sold a piece of property the other day, check cleared, guy didn't back out, house didn't burn down during closing, couldn't believe my good fortune. Horses are mostly out at the other farm, and a good shot of rain started the grass growing again, so they should be good til Christmas. Barn is full of hay, have managed to get the tomatoes covered with a tarp each night we have frosted, so still pickin' em and eatin' em right off the vine, with 3 year old grandson. No chance of losing my job- I'm self employed, and the worse things get, the more work I have. Only thing I kick myself for is watching too much news on the tube. . .

That's all great if you still have all of your marbles. I swear I'm going to have to get an assistant to follow me around. I leaned over the torch cart this morning to get something and the oxygen tank was on. New full tank,I used it once and had to wrack my brain to remember when. It was last Friday. I heated a piece of 3/8 rod to bend it. Pretty expensive bend. Then I checked the oil in my truck before I left to haul cattle. The filler cap was gone. Guess I forgot to put that back on last time I put oil in it. On the bright side,I can hide my own Easter eggs,I forget real quick all the crap on the news, and I can hide my own Easter eggs.

At choir practice one night, one of the singers was perturbed because we were singing one number the next Sunday that we had not even practiced before. We all kind of looked at each other, and the director reminded him that we had been practicing it for the past 3 weeks. He brightened up and stated, "Well, at least I never get tired of the music!" The irony was, he was a brain surgeon by profession. Everybody hoped it was a momentary lapse on his part.

Man O man if that ain't the truth. Out in the shop working on an Oliver 77 that's about done and couldn't find the 9/16" wrench I was just using....looked for that thing for a good 15 minutes before I found it.....in my left hand!!!

The good Lord has been good to me and I appreciate every day on this beautiful earth I get!!
