Gas coming out of the bottom of Carb

What does it mean when gas comes out of the botton of the carb bowl through the goldish screen thing?

This is a new carb that I bought on this site that was supposed to be plug and play. The only thin I had to do was reverse the choke linkage.

It means the carb is flooding. That's usually caused by an improper float setting. That sintered metal screen is supposed to drain any excess fuel so it doing what it should be doing. Your float valve, however, is not.

It means the carb is "running over" 'cause the inlet needle valve and seat assembly is unable to stop the flow of gas from the tank into the carburetor.

The little sintered brass screen at the bottom of the air horn lets the excess gas escape without letting ambient dirt get sucked into the engine.

The problem could be as simple as the needle not quite seating... which can often be helped by rapping the fuel inlet area of the carb a couple of times with a plastic screwdriver handle, or some dirt or crud jammed under the needle, or a faulty float (a "sink") or other failure inside the carb.

Joe, Run it for awhile and give it another chance. All it takes is a spec of dirt under the
needle(needle and seat) and it will flood over.
We've had this happen more than once. Shut off
your sed bowl shut off valve when not using till
you are sure. Chuck

Could be your float is sticking. Take in off and repeatly turn it upside down and then right side up. You should hear some clicking of the float going up and down. If not then the float is sticking in the float bowl. You will have to take the bowl off and move the floats in or out reassemble and try again. Had the same problem you are having with my H and M and it fit it.

Good Luck

Don't take it off until you try:
turning off the fuel at the tank, then running it out of fuel by starting it and letting it run W/fuel off. Then turn the fuel on and see if it floods. This trick drops the float to allow a shot of gasoline to clear the seat of tiny particles. If this does not work, and tapping is not working, then diagnosing the needle and seat will be needed.
Always turn off the fuel when it is shut off. Make it a habit. Even tiny needle and seat leakage will flood it. Gravity feed fuel systems are like having a weak fuel pump running all the time, even when not running. JimN

Joe,
When ever you have a carburator off to replace or repair clean the sedimet bowl, make sure the screen is in place. Before you hook the fuel line to the carburator turn on the gas and run fuel through the line, catch a pint or less in a clean container. You can pour it back in the tank. This will flush out any particles of dirt that always come loose when you take the line off. This has worked very well for me over the years.

Hope this helps, Ted

i bought a plug n' play carb as well and i am having the exact same problem!! these things were supposed to be run tested and as much as they cost i hate taking them apart and ruining new gaskets as they are stuck on good with the red paint they use on them.
