Horse power to pull Kinze 8 row corn planter

I am looking at a 8 row kinze planter with the splitter units for 15 inch beans. Does any body know how much Horsepower it takes to pull it. No Fertilizer on the planter. Thanks in advance

I don"t think it is all about horsepower as it is a weight issue it depends if you"re doing notill or full tillage and the weight of 15 units and also hydraulic lift capacity.

I have a 6 row and pull it with 110 hp. It walks with it at 4.2 mph. I think this is about as fast finger pickups work at 30K population. I have upgraded to presicion planter parts and they are great. Any thing at or above 4.5 mph and population monitor goes nuts! It just don't like it any faster than that. Beans work well up to about 5.5 mph if fields are smooth and it takes HP for that. Remember you are pulling 15 row units planting beans. 110 HP should be fine on flat ground, but any hills need more or you will have to slow down. I would think 130 HP would be better.

It will make 120 hp bark a little.

I assume it is a center pivot. Those things are heavy.

I pulled my 15 row 18 inch center pivot Kinze with a 1086 (140hp) and it was a load.

I now pull a Kinze 12row 30 inch econo fold and it pulls easier.

I pull 10-30"s JD 7000 with an 856 IH [100 HP] in some really nasty hills. Power isn"t a problem, but it worked a lot better when I dualed up. Lee
