I HAVE A TO 30 FERGUSON TRACTOR THAT IS 6 VOLTS I CONTINUE TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH STARTER. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY CABLES THEY ARE 1 GAUGE,I HAVE REBUILT STARTER AND NEW MANUAL STARTER SWITCH. AND I'M ONLY GETTING 3-4 VOLTS TO THE STARTER. I HAVE 6 VOLTS ON THE POSITIVE SIDE OF THE STARTER SWITCH. WHAT MIGHT BE CAUSING THE VOLTAGE LOSS? WHAT ELECTRICAL PARTS DO I HAVE TO CHANGE ON THE TO 30 FERGUSON TRACTOR TO CONVERT IT TO 12 VOLTS?

Place where ground strap was installed may not be clean enough. What was done to starter? Your starter stud may be shorting out to ground through the starter body. Sometimes I have seen damaged armature and commutator wires, of which will not complete the field. Fields may not be functional, either.

Don't go to 12 volt just because you can't get 6 volt to work. For over 50 years, the tractor has worked wonderfully with the 6 volt.

You should have 00 battery cables on a 6 volt tractor. They will carry more amperage. Make sure you clean all connections until shiny including the surface where your battery is grounded. Check the battery electrolyte with a hydrometer to see what each cells reads. Should be around 1.260 or better in each cell. If one cell reads 1.100 replace the battery. Hal
