Dave2 Home-built tractor

Dave, your post yesterday about home-built tractors gave me the impetus I needed to rescue a little tractor my late Uncle built a LONG time ago. It was last run when I drove it as a youngster in the 60's.

My Uncle cultivated MILES of tree rows with it, as well as corn and potatoes.

It was powered by a "model 23" Briggs engine. I am thinking about installing a LUC Deere combine engine, and making a little "Johnny Popper".

Note the rear weight in the last photo... the clutch assembly from a Twin City 12-20 tractor.

Hey,
I'm at work now and the pics won't open. I'll check them out when I get home. Some of the oldtimers still use a 2 wheeled tractor (kinda like a Gravely) for Gardening. Whole assortment of attachments from a sickle mower to plow, tiller, broom, snowblade, and more. They run them on the roads with a 2 wheeled trailer with a seat on the front. No license plates required like with normal tractors, just lights and they can only travel 6 kmh. Pretty tough machines and real hard to come by (for a realistic price). Been trying to get one to use around the place for years, but, since I really only needed the trailer capabilities, settled on an ATV and a trailer I already had.

Imagine how many happy hours he spent engineering and building that. He surely took a lot of pride in it. Why don"t you restore it?

I intend to. I don't have the engine (can't remember where that got off to) so I was considering the little Deere LUC.

Just think, wouldn't drive yourself crazy trying to find ORIGINAL parts... Can't wait to get home now so I can se the pics.

Hello Dave2 I have home built tractor it is massey 101 with 354 chrysler Hemi. A friend dad built in 1955 he farm with it thay had anction

That's a neat looking tractor. I first got interested in tractors in the 1950s because of all the homemade tractors many old-timers had at the time. Usually called them "victory tractors." Most then were made from Ford Model and Crosley parts. Maybe that's why everytime I come across a Crosley engine, I grab it. I've got several here, including a few that became Bearcat and Homelite outboard motors.

Have a homebuilt tractor built from old ford car axels cut down, also driveshaft cut down, with a one clylinder IH lb flywheel cranked motor.Used now mostly for parades, where Ipull a tandem axel trailer with a IH and JD engens pulling pumpjacks, one of whitch pumps water.Lots of fon and gets lots of attention..

Here"s one I built back around "63 when I was but 22 yrs old.
Wisconsin 6HP, "38 Chevy trans., "49 Ford steering box and "47 ply. rear (narrowed).
has 3 pt hitch and I built cultivators and a plow blade for it. Also converted a dirt plow to fit the 3 pt hitch. Still have it but it has been thru 2 engines. I plan to install an old 8HP cast iron B&S and get her runnin" just for old time"s sake.
