Moultrie, GA Expo

Went to farm Expo at Moultrie, GA. Crowds seemed down a little.

Disappointed that I again didn't get to see dry hay baled. Not the show's fault, it rained a day or two before the show. They baled green Coastal Bermuda which makes nicely shaped bales anyway. Couldn't single out one brand that performed better. Would like to see them put all the 4 x 5 balers together, then the 5 x 6 balers to get a good comparison. They did all the raking with one rake possibly to get conditions as even as possible.

One new piece of equipment I really liked is the new v rakes by Kuhn. They fold the wheels up high for transport or turning around at the end of the rows. By changing a linkage, only one side can be set to rake, useful if you need to turn a windrow. They have a center wheel attachment to disturb the hay under the windrow, adds about $850 to the $5300 list price for an 8 wheel rake, if I remember correctly. If someone has used that option on other v rakes, I would like to hear an opinion on its usefulness.

Tractors there in confusing numbers and models. It seems to me that the Korean tractors are replacing the Japanese compact models for some US makers. I asked at a JD dealership today and the compacts are still made by Yanmar.

MF has a line of made in India tractors like John
Deere has been doing. I haven't heard and bad reports on the Indian John Deeres.

NH is making a line of cheaper tractors based on the old Fiat design that was used on some Olivers, ACs, and Longs. They have the same PTO arrangement and bull gear rear ends.

One of the displays made a sale to me. I have a Bush Hog 3ph post hole digger. I went by the Bush Hog display and saw a digger with the optional parking stand and I went to the dealers today and ordered one. $158. Unfortunately, I had to use the digger today. Got a call while at the motel monday from neighbor who said my cows were out. Called wife and she and neighbor put cows in and fixed fence. LOML fixed fence next day. Some unhappiness on her part and my part over situation, so today I started to work on fixing fence and building gate. Posthole digger works a lot better when you clean the roots off that have wrapped around the digger teeth! Some calves on the short list for the
sale.

I was there all 3 days and yes the crowd was way down.Dont know why whether it was gas prices or the economy in general but the crowds were off . Talked to several vendors ,said a lot of lookers but not much in the way of sales . Hope KEH you got to check out the antique tractor section and seen some of my tractors. I had the 3 unstyled B John Deeres, the Caterpillar 15 crawler ,41A John Deere and the 110 Lawn mower

Crackerhead,

Yes, we looked at the antiques. Payed particular attention to the crawler. That's the smallest Cat I've seen. I notice A s because I onec owned a 46.

All the restored tractors showed that someone has done a lot of work. All looked good. I noticed one nice unstyled B up the row from the crawler, was that yours?

The crawler must have an interesting story behind it.

Yes all 3 unstyled B's are mine . I guess you are talking about the B with the cultivators. Yes the Cat has a interedting story behind it . Aren't you from Upstate S.C? I live just north of Gainesville Ga.
