out of gas --red neck solution

A couple of my friends decided they needed a air boat. There was nothing in our area so the fly to Texas and find one they liked. They took the pickup and trailer to Texas and south of Des Moines Ia they ran out of gas with the pickup. They tried to drain some gas out of the air boad, NO WORKIE. So rather than walk a few miles they fired up the air boat on the trailer and one driver in the pickup, and the other twisting the tail of the air boad over 50 mph. ( OH YES ---those two would)--- no power steering, and brakes weren't so good either.

I'm sure they broke some laws, but wonder if any laws were written for this exact crime? I have to wonder about grandma driving down they hwy and meeting a (usualy quiet running) pickup with her window down.

I have always heard that a tail wind would get you more MPG.

Us town folks were just happy to hear that they were ok, and also relieved that the air boat was loaded on the trailer in the right direction so they did not have to back the pickup and trailer to the gas station.

I've done similar. Years ago while transporting mobile homes we would tow bar one toter and drive the other on the return trip. Ran out of gas in the tow-er. Fired up the tow-ee and pushed the tow-er to the next station. TDF

My FIL had 20ft Winnebago that the starter went out on when he had it out on the street to hook up his old beetle to tow. Needed to get it off the street, so we backed up half a block and I pushed and got him rolling and pushed him uphill into his driveway and darn near into the closed garage. He forgot he didn't have power working brakes. LOL

Thats a good One ,,,,if there is a wiil There is a way for a Country Boy ,....Just this A.m ,, Pulled and started 300 MF combine ,, starter went bad , Down a mild level to decline slope in a rain slick soybean feild , With 2 wheel -posi -track , slick tires , , no weight in the back of 95 dodge cummins 5 speed ,, hooked at angle to where truck dug in and sideangled to get a good ummph ,,, And there were about 50 bu beans in graintank... I never thought that I would get enough traction ,,

My brother was going to his kid's b'ball game away and the rear spindle broke off the kid's dodge spirit. He called his bil to bring the tow truck. The truck tranny gave up after a couple miles and my brother started up the dodge and put it in reverse and pushed the tow truck back to town, only about 5 miles. It overheated every now and then, they just stopped and let it cool. Finally got back to town.
