Recommendation for 12v diesel pump

I need to get a 12volt pump to transfer diesel fuel from a stationary tank to a fuel tank in a pickup.A company is getting rid of a few generators and asked if I would remove the fuel.So I need to pump out a few 150 gallon tanks and would like some advice on a good transfer pump. Not looking to spend a lot but 400+ gallons of free diesel is too good to pass up!

Whatever way you go,make sure you have a good ground. Don't want you ending up like a co-worker of mine.Don't let anyone tell you diesel won't explode.I saw it happen!! Be Safe

Go to Graingers or similar industrial supplier and buy a 12 volt bilge pump that uses garden hose fittings...I've owned mine for about 25 years..I've pumped everything under the sun with it..I recently pumped a tank in a basement ,out a basement window, into the garage to drums to be loaded with a backhoe to my truck..This pump job used about 40 feet of hose..8 feet of suction and 30+ feet of discharge hose..I've pumped cold hydraulic in the winter...Upon occasion , I will have to put oil into the pump before pulling thru a long suction hose..Otherwise the pump will get hot..270 galloms took about 3 hours to pump with a 15 minute break in between...

400 gallons of diesel free, from 150 gallon tanks! I would just use the hand pump on the service tank in the old pickup. If those 150 gallon tanks are for sale they would be headed home via a F11 loader and a old chevy farm truck. Perhaps a generator also. I am sure Steven from Arizona would agree with me.

How many total gallons to pump? If you wanted to do it cheaply, you could use a hand cranked rotary barrel pump. I picked up a new cheap one for about $20 and then bought a piece of hose to fit on the inlet pipe. I bet you could even rig it up to crank with an electric drill or impact wrench. I used mine to pump the hyd. oil out of my Cat, so I wouldn't make a big mess trying to drain the tank from the bottom. Dave

Hi sbin,

I use a 12vdc Flotec 5gpm pump with a 10u into a 2u filters for a diesel X-fer pump and it pumps well. About $120 at any of the online boat parts suppliers. Just make sure it's the diesel rated pump.

I have not had any luck out of the Surflo pumps the past two years.
