Just a few pics I took. Harvest is moving along at a nice pace. Rain is coming tuesday so that will give us a little break in the action to catch up on some other things.

How bout this for a suprise. I believe is a B-17 superfortress. Its been flying in and around Peoria for a few days and I caught my first glimpse today. Maybe somebody can tell us more about it. Not the best picture but it was quite a nice distraction. Really was something to hear it roar past.

Tonights sunset, they sure are coming alot earlier than they did.

Grinding away at the beans. 80 acres left to go. We should get done tomorrow but this last 80 has some test strips in it so we will be busy with a weigh wagon checking results and that will slow us down.

Just a picture of the 1086 and a couple of wagons catching beans off the combine on the go. Today was only the second day this fall we didnt get the wagons stuck. Its not really muddy but the tilled ground is very soft.

Quitting time on thursday evening. Lots of moisture in the ground and air has kept us from running in the dark for the most part.

Nice pics - thanks for posting them. I'm far from an authority on planes, but I do know the B17 was called the Flying Fortress. I think it was the B29 that was the SuperFortress. B52's are StratoFortresses.

Hello billonthefarm have a freind that lives in Taswell Co. neighbors are Weigons (sp) he"s retired from Cat. Brothers been cutting beans here in so. end of state Saline co. since last Sunday haven"t talk to him last day or so to see how there getting along but with 2388 and 1660 they cover an aera pretty quick, 30ft. and a17.5ft. it"s very dry here to dry to chesiel or do much tillage of any kind, corn here should be about dry by now. Supposedly only 15 of those still air worthy, the Liberty Belle, was here 2 months ago, easy to recognize by the sound of those engines

You are correct, I think. There was also a B50 which as I remember was pretty much a B29 with different engines. I did not fly, but friends who did much preferred the B50. You never hear of that aircraft, though.

where is the mighty 403 or the little deere? that looks way to modern with fancy climate controlled cab,air seat, 2 dozen different monitors .how can you appreciate the good old days in something like that?

It is a B-29 , i have flown in a B-17 two years ago and see it on a regular basics.

This is the type plane that dropped the Atomic bombs.

If your in Ohio in the Dayton area Wright Patterson Air Base there is the B-29 Box Car on display. It dropped the second war head, great place to visit and it's free.

They are resting peacefully in the shed.
These modern convinent machines pay for my toys and do make me appreciate the good old days and how hard they would have been.
Need to get another 600 acres of corn harvested, spend about a week running the ripper and then put on 800 acres of NH3. After that, the little combines, corn pickers and old tractors will roar to life, hopefully shortly after halloween.

The B-50 was a larger version of the B-29 Was neaver used in combat that is why you don't hear mouch about them.
