Hi all,
I was gone to Wisconsin on the 1st and 2nd to pick up my 1938 Farmall F-20. It is a nice tractor, it has F&H 36" round spoke rear wheels and F&H cast front wheels. It has the PTO extension and overdrive too. Here is a picture of it. The serial number is FA-112762. I've been working on it some today, I cleaned the carb and put in a new kit, new plugs & wires, oil & filter and sediment bowl gasket. The engine has good compression and I tried starting it with my Farmall H off the belt pulley. It sounds like the timing is off, so I'll have to check that out. I don't think the magneto impulse is working either. I hope to have it running soon. I have a few questions that I will post soon.

Thanks,
Andy

Andy,

belt is good idea for starting un run hand crank tractors, make sure you have proper twist in belt for correct engine rotation, i saw the results of one attempt at this where engine was being turned the wrong direction oil pump didn't work back wards and engine soon locked up a rod bearing. also mag impluse will not trip if turned to fast, some smaller tractors with mag and 12 volt conversion don't like to start because engine spins to fast for impulse to work with 12 volts to starter

Thats a purty tractor. Please don't paint it. I like it just the way it looks. Make it run good though.

Thanks, yes I made the twist in the belt. It would run a little, but not well because of the timing and I need to take the carb off again because the carb floods out. It had good oil pressure when it would run.

Thanks, if you are asking about my Dad's '74 International pickup, yes we still have it and we use it, good truck.

Heres one you probabally havent heard-You can use a rope on a crank start tractor. A short one though. Tie one end to the crank and pull the other end. Do not wrap the rope around your hand, and hold the end of the rope. If it backfires, it pulls the rope out of your hand.

I VOTE Not to restore also.. I have an H JD thats in the Same ORIGINAL Cond, and runs like a Clock... Gonna' keep it that way Larry KF4LKU
