hi,how do you measure for a set of rings for a 1937 jd a? and is there any where i can get a service manual for the a ? thank you..

Why not take the piston along with the serial# and then go to your John Deere dealer.

The original piston bore is 5.5 inches. Check the piston top for any numbers indicating oversize, or measure with caliper.
Each piston has 5 rings, 4 compression and 1 oil. All are 1/4" wide. If the tractor has been upgraded with an after-market power block, then different measurements may apply.
