Anyone here buy the Ebay IH B275 this morning?

Somebody got a pretty good deal on Ebay this morning (which is rare). Little International Harvester B-275 diesel. I almost bought it since it's parked 40 miles from me in Troy, New York. But, at the last minute - I said the heck with it, since I already have several of the same tractor and usually find them cheaper. I did not want to bid it up higher. Good deal if I wanted to resell it - but I don't usually sell things.

It sold for $1,125. For a good running diesel tractor with wide front end, almost new rear tires, front hydraulic loader, differential lock, three point hitch, live hydraulics, live PTO, high-low range transmission with 8 speeds forward and 2 in reverse, etc. and 32 horse - and great parts availability - is a good deal. Makes a great tractor for running a brush hog, five foot rototiller, rear five foot snowblower, etc. Sure beats a lot of $3000 - $4000 Fords I see for sale.

A few people have posted on these forums lately that you cannot get a tractor with all these features for less then $3000? Well, here's one example. Ebay # 260292505433

One slightly weird thing about the tractor is - somebody patched in a truck front axle. Also, it looks like the loader had a trip-bucket at one time, and somebody did a poor job of making it a hydraulic dump.

If I could of bought it for $1200 outright - I would of grabbed it. But, who knows how much buyer was willing to go with the price?

Looks like a real Rube Goldberg POS to me. I honestly wouldn"t have spent the gas money to drive from eastern KY to NY to get it, had it been free.

What do you mean,"great parts availability" you must live in england where those things are built. You can't get parts around here, most dealers have never seen one. The diesels need either when it's 80 degrees, hard steering and very crude.

I'm honestly more interested in the orange tractor in the background. I have no idea what someone sees in this contraption, honestly. The truck front axle was installed because the original was abused until it finally broke - Now that it has a heavier axle, you can abuse it much more... NOT.

That's just my buyer's opinion.

I've seen lots of those tractors in western Canada too. I would have thought I'd made a heck of a good deal if I'd bought that (never spend time on E Bay, so not going to happen. It wouldn't take me long to sell or trade or give the loader away, though. Should be a good affordable 3PH tractor. If parts are that hard to come by, use it till something major goes wrong, then sell parts. Just a few thoughts.

Those truck tires are so large it looks like you could not turn very sharp without rubbing the loader frame.

I've got three of them. Very rugged tractor and parts are easy to get. Absolutley NO problem. You can even buy an engine kit on this Website.

You don't know what the heck you're talking about.
You can buy an engine kit right on this website. The tractor series was made in England and India and sold here in the US by IH dealers - and some versions of it were still being made just a few years ago by Mahindra. I can get any part I want - either over the counter at my local Case-IH dealer - or aftermarket.

I've got two B-275s and also a B-414 (almost the same tractor). I find parts easier for them then I do my Deere 1020 or 300B.

I just bought two brand new starters to have as spares. Cost $119 each - cheaper then rebuilding the original. Lucas 26193, 26288, or 27420. B-275 uses the same starter as IH crawlers TD5, TD6, TD8, also tractors 354, 2276, B275, B3434, B354, B364, B414, B434, B444, HB25 payloader and also a few IH power units.

I'm pretty amazed at some of the ignorance posted here. I don't care who is, or isn't interested in the tractor. But - isn't this a forum for old tractors? Aren't some people coming here because they have some sort of interest in older tractors?
Why post such nonsense when you obviously don't speak from facts?

I posted it since some people have expressed interest in finding a cheaper tractor with live PTO, and a low range suitable for running a rear tiller and/or snow blower. So, I posted this as proof that such tractors can be found cheap.

Just to set the record straight. The tractor I posted the info about - was made in India and Carhill, England and sold all over the USA and Canada. It's a very rugged tractor and just about all parts are available new - OEM from your Case/IH dealer - and aftermarket. I have several versions of these tractors. I bought an engine kit right here on this Website. Also two new waterpumps to have as spares and they are cheap.
The B-275 was built 1958 to 1965. But, Mahindra makes a new tractor that uses almost all of the original tractor - except with newer sheet metal and a new DI engine, e.g. the C4505 DI.
B-275 has around 32 horsepower, live PTO, live hydraulics, foot-pedal differential lock, a very strong three point hitch, and a four speed trans with a hi and low range - thus giving 8 speeds forward and 2 in reverse.

To moan and complain about a tractor that sells for less then $1200 with these features - plus new rear tires and a el-cheapo front loader - is beyond me.

Not liking IH tractors, or not liking British tractors - that's one thing. I don't care, one way or the other. But, if you want to run something down - try doing some research first.
I get parts easier for my British IH tractors than I do for several of my John Deere and Ford tractors. Some of you guys don't have a clue about what you are pontificating about.

And, what can you buy in Kentucky for under $1200 with a 32 horse diesel, three point hitch, new rear tires, live PTO, live hydraulics, differential lock, dual-range transmission, a front loader and good parts availability? I bet not very much.

In regard to the cobbed up trip-bucket and front end - yeah - it's a pretty crappy job. It would be smarter to buy a $5000 or $6000 tractor if you can't work on them yourself?

As to the distance - yes, that's a whole different story. That's why some tractors actually go cheap on Ebay - too costly to truck long distances. I'm in New York - and if somebody offered me that tractor for free - but I had to go pick it up in Kentucky - I wouldn't want it either. But, that has little to do with - if the tractor was a bargain, or not - to some people.

JD,
That looks like the 1550/1551? original loader. The original has a single cylinder as well. I have one, a fella borrowered it once and ran into something and put a nice little crease in it. After we got the price for a new one (1300) we worked away and straightened it and it works fine. Perhaps this cowboy ran into the same problem.
A year ago at an auction, I bid up a bin of cylinders for 7 bucks a piece, and found one the same as mine. I was tickled.
Pleased with mine (444) I've asked it to do alot more work then it should. I took the generator off and put an alternator on it. Since then it will start on the coldest days.

Yeah, I put alternators on all of mine. One of my B-275s has a loader that looks kind of like the one in the photo - with a manure bucket in front and mine still is a trip setup. My loader says "made in Canada" on it.

I've got six tractors with that BD-144 engine (one is an IH crawler). The very early B-275s had a CAV in-line injection pump with an air governor something like the diesel Fordsons used. Some of them can be awful cold starters. The later B-275s - including the one that sold on Ebay - have CAV rotary pumps and start just fine in cold weather as long as the glow-plugs are working correctly. I run a 5 foot rear rototiller on one my B-275s and that's quite a workout for a 32 horse tractor in hard ground. It does fine - it's a very rugged tractor. I've got a Ford 641 tractor - and the IH B-275 is twice the tractor at half (or 1/3) the price.

If the loader was put on when the tractor was new it should be a IH 1501 Loader. They were made by IH at Hamilton, Ontario for B-275, B-414, 424, 434, MF-35 & MF-50. Available with mechanical trip or hydraulic dump.

Sounds like exactly what mine is. It says Hamilton, Ontario on it - but no model #. I figured it was special made for this series tractor - since it has to allow the tilt-forward hood to open.

I say there is enough "fertilizer" flying around here , you should fire that rascal up and you could take several scoops with that loader. You think ?
