Posted about 20 larger items for sale on e-bay last week just to try and clean up around the place. . . mostly big heavy castings and the like that dont really have much value unless you really need them. Spent close to two hours listing everything, uploading pictures, paying my fees, etc. Here we are now almost a week later and I get an e-mail from them saying they are cancelling my listings cause I put in my description that "I will accept paypal but I will be adding on the paypal fee to the final auction price." Some garbage about how it adds mistrust to the market place. . . How am I being deceptive by flat out saying they carge me a fee and I plan on passing it on to the buyer for using the service?
Now I have to try and relist everything, probably pay double and wait another week to see where this stuff will end up.
Ive been more or less unhappy with e-bay as of late and will probably list these things again, but it has become my last resort option for trying to sell anymore.
Just wanting to complain. . .

if it's tractor stuff, put it on YT photo ads for free. You can always make a donation, rather than "paying a fee". Whatever's left, then go to ebay.

The word "trust" has lost a lot of its value lately, hasn't it? Their "mistrust in the market place" is pure BS but eBay owns PayPal and they expect eBay sellers to absorb PayPal charges. It's roughly equivalent to credit charges on a similar sized sale.

You could restrict your sales to certified check/money order or cash at the time of pickup since these things are heavy and expensive to ship.

It's a whole lot easier and even less expensive to let that old iron just sit and rust away than it is to try and sell it on ebay.

ebay is going to a paypal only payment scheme in oct .no more money orders for sales there. ebay is constantly changing things that i think hurt the sellers.you cant leave a buyer that cheats you a negative feedback now. ebay store items wont show up in searches anymore.they are forceing you to move store items to fixed price that costs more to the seller so it shows up in a search..ebay is a abundant left wing organization that hates guns ,but who else are you going to use? lucas

Yep the fees will eat you up.

I think it is illegal for a business to ask for extra to cover the cost of credit card fees. This could be some of the reasoning ?
I think I heard this on the news here in Ohio.
Some used to offer cash discounts , but I don't think many do anymore.

Next time just figure your Pay Pal fees into the starting price of the item. Your item will bring more in the long run. People want final prices.

It has been e-bays rule from day one. You cannot charge pay pal fees to the buyer. That is the cost of doing business.

Sure they are. They own PayPal so they get you coming and going. With old iron, if its heavy the buyers are likely to pick it up and you can insist on cash then. One of the other replies is right, they are abundant and you don't see ads to the contrary listed. I must say I've had pretty poor luck selling things here though. I think I average less than 1 call on most items. This is a great forum but, for me anyway, the selling luck hasn't been there. Haven't tried Craig's list.

Where does that come from? abundant left-wing? Hates guns? The requirement to use PayPal for eBay sales doesn't sound very abundant or left-wing to me. It's like selling razors cheap so you can sell expensive razor blades. It's called "vertical integration" in industrial terms or "BOHICA" to your clients in sales terms.

The problem with selling guns is first, the ID requirement and second, shipping; the eBay folks probably got leaned on pretty hard by the feds.

Whoa, how dare you use logic!

Didn't you get the memo, those leftys are at fault for everything!

Seriously, what you said is dead on. A much as I dispise PayPal as a seller its the price of doing business.

Rules, Regulations, I suppose I have to follow them like everyone else. What bothers me is the lack of common sense involved in the whole ordeal. Im not sneaking an item in with insane high shipping prices to make an extra dollar, Im starting out at less than a buck starting bid. E-bay of course wants me to use paypal and I can understand if some folks like to use it to pay, just dont penalize me for using it because someone else wants too. Im old fashioned in that I wont pay bills online, I go to the bank to make my mortgage payment, and try to pay in check or cash when I can. Now, just like in my business, I have to find a way to "beat the system" so I dont have to pay extra fees/taxes/etc that your average joe might not take the time to do and he is penalized. All the tax write offs I have to figure in just to break even or make a small profit after taxes are enough to make a simple business of selling a service a real headache.
So many hands wanting to take something out of my pocket because I took the initiative to do something productive. Where is the common sense in that?

You cannot charge a premium for using pay pal, but you can offer a discount to the buyer that wants to pay by any other means.

Craigslist is great. I sold over $11,000 worth of farm stuff this spring and it never cost me a cent. Baler, Haybine, Rake, Chains, Plow, JD350, Loader brackets, Hyd control unit. It's very easy to use. No fees or comissions to them. I've bought several things too, Bike, Sawzall, big bale trailer, snow blade. I like it alot

1423 transactions on EBAY and not one complaint for the millions of transactions a day they do i feel they do a outstanding job. if you don't like them then DON'T USE THEM plane and simple. with like anything THEY MUST make a profit

Im not saying that e-bay should not make a profit. I understand they have rules, regulations, etc etc I have to follow if I list items on the site. I suppose its not E-bay that I have an issue with, its the fact that someone always has to find a way to take a percentage here and there. . . who knows what will be next? If I didt express my dislike of the situation perhaps they would think of a fee they could add for each day the item is listed, like a "daily item maintenance fee." Push push push to see what you can get away with to make more more more. What ever happened to providing a service at a reasonable set price with the satisfaction you are helping someone? Guess my thoughts are from a different era. . . and Im only in my early 30s!

I agree. Considering all of the paid ads that eBay plasters all over a sellers page, they should be paying ME to list, or at least it should be free. I moved over to e-crater. Everything is free on that site. Exposure is fantastic, and sales are even better.

Yep, pretty soon it will be PayPal only, I quit selling my engines on eBay because they say I have to accept PayPal. I hate PayPal, the eBay fees are high enough and I don't need PayPal fees on top of that!!!
