Is it possible to suck gas from auto tanks fill tube?

The reason I ask is my place of employment thinks gas is coming missing from autos parked a few days to a week inside a fence .I thought modern auto had a check valve in the fill tube .I think I tried to get gas out of tanks of auto before replaceing the intank fuel pump but can remember .

I syphon lawn mower gas out of my '88 Chevy full size, my '98 Dodge Ram full size and I think I have also done it on my '95 Intrepid -

but couldn't do it on my '91 Pontiac Grand Am

All it takes is a 5 foot length of 1/4 inch hose, a container, and someone to suck on the hose to get a siphon action going.

Incredibly easy.

Did this on a diesel fuel tank in which the drain valve was jammed stuck. Took one full day to drain into 55 gallon drums.

When I change fuel pumps it usually easier to empty the tank by getting at the big hose that hooks to the filler neck, bout like taking off a radiator hose.
They might cut into this hose, won't know till you fill up.

The most limiting factor to siphoning gas from vehicles is the bends and elbows in the filler hose/neck.The check valve is not the problem.

Depends on the vehicle.

Many of the newer cars have a very curvy fuel inlet line, hard to run a hose down there. Others may have a ball valve in the line. Difficult to get past. Around here they shove a tub under car, punch a hole in the tank and collect gas that way. Fast, no muss, no fuss, in and out quick.

I think it is very possible as well with a long, small diameter hose. My late model Ford PU has a short (2 ft) hose from the fill cap area to the tank. I removed this hose to remove the box to replace a fuel pump a while back. Pump was fine but the pressure regulator was bad and had to replace as a unit...but that is a different story !

My wife has a 2007 Ford Fusion and some sorry blankety blank siphon out 5 gallons in my front yard a month ago. They siphon it some how.

I'm reminded of my sister, who went out with some guy in high school, and after they kissed goodnight, he said, "Wow, where did you learn to kiss so good?" She smiled and replied, "Siphonin' gas."

3ft of 1/4 inch hose and a 12 vol electric pump battery and you can empty a 30 gallon tank in about 10 minutes we have done it to a few of them to change the intake fuel filter also beats taking a swig of gas

Punks around here are not even bothering to siphon fuel anymore. They just drill holes in the plastic tanks and drain it in oil drain catch pans with built in storage. When the pan is full they let the rest run out on the ground. While waiting for the fuel to drain they hack the converter out on some vehicals. Just waiting for the news report of an explosion and the resulting toasted punk but so far they have been lucky.

This is a little story i wouldn't have believed if it were not for a seprate person agreeing that it was true.

We have a club memeber with a old semi he uses to move equipment around in the fall ! Well he noticed that he was low on fuel and added so he could do what he needed the next day.

Well the next day it ran out !!!!! He said shame on him for not watching the gauge . Well after figureing out that some one was stealing diesel he came up with a cure.

At this point in time they had septic field problems and the tank was open, "yes".

Seeing how this truck was old and that fuel tank was almost bad they filled that tank with human waste etc etc ..

After pulling it back to its parking spot buy the road they left it. After three days he thought i better go and check on the truck and see if it's ok !

There was a hose in "that tank" with a pile of vomit next to it with a new 5 gallon gas can.

There hasn't been a problem sence , and no one has said anything about it so they don't have a clue as to who it might of been.

Like i said i wouldn't have believed the story if it weren't for a another person confirming that it really happened.

It's plain $hitty to steal it in the first place, so this person got what was coming to them.

I have heard a similar story with an isolated construction site with a gasoline tank that was experiencing gas loss over a weekend, Locks didnt work as they would cut them, etc. So what the superintendent did was to fill the tank with water (after first warning all the workers and making alternate fueling arrangements. This site was a half mile up a dirt road. Well one Monday morning, he finds this strange car pulled over by the side of that road, ran the plate, the cops found water in the gas tank, etc. Solved that problem, too.

sure it can be done, i have run my ford tractor off gas siphoned from my chevy for years, and i run my diesel john deere as well as my diesel pickup from fuel siphoned from my kenworth for years too, when money is tight, the fuel in the trucks is already paid for, might as well use that as by new, the big defference here is it is all MY fuel im just using it in different machines
