Removing Small Block Chev Engine

One fellow said that no man could lift a chevy engine over the fender. The jury believed that Cousin Jim could. The sheriff and prosecutor said he acted alone and Cousin Jim was convicted. Jim denied it. Neighbor who bought it said the heads had not been removed but the fan and water pump had been. I will ask him when he gets out of the corrections facility.

SB with cast-iron heads and intake wieghs 575 lbs. With alum. intake weighs 535 lbs.

Ford SB weighs around 460 lbs.

Only V-8 engine I ever pulled out by hand was with two guys (I was one) and the engine was the GM-Buick 215 aluminum V8 that weighs 345 lbs.

I was going through old photos this past week and saw one I had taken in a museum of a bare block for a Crosley car. You could lift one of those over the fenders but I don't buy it that one could lift a SBC over.

Thanks Clint:
some of it makes sense except Judge and Jury anyway, someone sent me a E-mail once with 2 guys using a V-8 chainsaw laughed so hard brought tears to my eyes.

I don't have a clue what you've been talking about. But . . . I threw my two cents in anyway - since when I was younger, there were several times me and few friends would drink a case of beer - and then try to swap an engine by hand.
Never suceeded with a SB Chevy. Even tried to pull a 409 once with three guys. With the Buick 215 V8 however, two guys can pick it right up and almost throw it.

I'd be inclined to call B.S.....................BUT if he was indeed able to lift/drag it out over the fender by hand, by himself I believe I'd address him as MR. Cousin Jim! LOL

I'll stick with my John Deere 310A backhoe for most everything over the weight of a bag of dogfood. Had my gut tucked back in and my back re-adjusted a few more times than I liked. Dad warned me!

There used to be a junk yard in Waterloo Ia ran by a couple brothers that pulled motors with a sling between the 2 of them. If you've ever watched country fried home videos and have seen their "worlds strongest redneck", That guy looks like their little brother.
