Probably 12-15 yrs ago I saw a guy on tv maybe cable TNN, and he told the most hilarious storylike poem. He was young about 40, had long beard and I belive cowboy hat. When he was done they said he was the great country or cowboy story teller or something like that. I remember the story well, it was about drinking from a stream and then finding a dead cow slightly upstream. I asked on another forum and got nowhere. No, it was not Tom T hall, Justin Wilson, David Allen coe or any other famous person that I know of. But, he could be famous today. I would like to know who and hear him again. Anyone know who?

Baxter Black seems likely but I've never seen a picture of him with a long beard. He's well known to NPR listeners and pretty famous in his native Colorado.

there's a whole group of these "cowboy poets" that my farrier is always turning me on to...almost all seem to sport luxurious facial hair and hats as tall as their tales. He loves to listen to their tapes ( no CDs for his old F350)
My farrier, Gil Stevenson, can hang in there as a great story teller/ BS artist also. Over 60 years old and he can still touch his palms to the ground without bending his knees- and his work with my horse's feet put a 16 year old mare with navicular on the winner's podium in barrels in OKC last year.

Not the guy you"re thinking of, but Lee Kline who is now retired from many years as a farm broadcaster on WHO radio in Des Moines Ia spends his time story telling. Very interesting to listen to.
