8N w/out oil filter

I have a 1952 8N. Was the side mounted engine oil filter an option when purchased? Mine does not have any type of filter housing anywhere. Should / can I add one?

All 8n's came with a oil filter. Sounds like someone has either eliminated the filter or swaped in a engine from a 9n or early 2n. But most of those had the oil filter canister. Got a pic of the left side of the engine?

I have never seen one with out an oil filter but that's not saying some did not come with out them. Yes you can buy one and install it. I might even have one laying around in my shop

I will post a picture of the left side tomorrow. The serial number is diffinitely a 8N. There is only the oil breather cap, starter, dip stick and now the new 12 volt alternator on the left side. We didn't even see any tapped holes etc, where the filter housing should be.

Here is the picture of the engine's left side. I noticed 2 bolt holes towards the top. The left bolt hole had the old generator bracket attached. The right one didn't have anything in it. If possible I'd really prefer to have an oil filter on this tractor. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The 2 threaded holes in the head directly above the oil fill tube, is where the filter canister goes. Now, take a pic of the RIGHT side of the engine. Back towards where the manifold and exhaust pipe connect. There SHOULD be a brass fitting screwed into the engine block. The oil line for the filter canister connects to this brass fitting. I will take a pic of my 2n and post it for you.

I just checked. Yes there is a brass elbow where you stated there should be....except the tube goes to the oil pressure gauge. I take by deduction that this should actually be a "T" fitting with one line going to the guage and the other line to the filter. Or...is there an outlet line from the filter housing back to the pressure gauge?
Thank you ever so much!!! I love my little 8N tractor. Ford "N's" rock!

Pic is coming. That brass elbow actually has 2 ports, 1 goes to the gauge and the other goes over the bel-housing and bends around the engine block and goes into the oil filter canister.

I saw those tapped holes in the pic you posted.
Here are the pics. The 1st one is of the brass block. As you can see it shows the line going to the gauge and the other line going to the filter. The 2nd pic shows the line from the brass block, where it connects to the filter canister, AND the canister itself and how/where it goes. Your old generator belt tightener bracket was bolted to ONE of the holes that the canister bolts onto.... follow?
