Thin grease for gearbox

I have a IH 990 mower conditioner and I can't keep a seal in the gearbox and I need to find some grease that is thinner than gun grease. Texaco did make some but we don't have a dealer around here close anymore. Any sugestions? Thanks

What I do when I need something like that is mix one tube of grease gun grease with 1/2 gal. of 140W gear oil. some times more or less which ever works. By far its cheaper to do it that way then to buy something already mixed up by some company. Now is it good bad or in different I do not know but it seems to work for me

John Deere used to make a thin grease to use in the grease banks of our square hay baler. I think it was called "multi-lube" Probably the same thing as what the guys are talking about with the corn head grease. Of course when we bought it, it came in metal cans. If that gives you an indication of how long it has been (70's).

There’s some stuff called Bentonite. It is a semi liquid grease. It is used in garden tractor transaxles and stuff like that. May be expensive if you need a lot though and very messy to work with, but lasts forever! Google Bentonite grease.

Just squeeze a tube of regular qrease in there. I do it all the time with my brushog that has a bad seal. It will find its way all over in the gearbox just fine.

Another similar one would be either 00 or 0 type grease or lube, similar to what older crawlers used to lube track rollers, there was actually a specific lube designated as such, but may be obsolete or difficult to find.

Now I forget which is which 00 or 0, but at least one of them is suited to the purpose of clinging and for applications where seals are prone to leak, the book on my Rhino SE-6 rotary cutter calls for one of these ( 00 or 0 )lubes for the gear box, I could not find that in a small quantity, so I used a Lucas 90 wt., must have had 00, 0 in there, as the 90 wt. does seep a little.

The old track roller lube and similar reminds me of chainsaw bar oil, stringy and tacky kind of a lube, JD cornhead grease is supposed to be similar, as are others mentioned here.

I have also used "85-140 Cling" not sure who makes it, but is more like those stringy/tacky type lubes.

Better yet try mixing the grease with some STP oil treatment. It makes it slicker than deer guts on a door knob.

IT IS A CLAY, AND YOU CAN MIX IT WITH GEARS! Google it and learn something.
