Pricing used equipment?? (more of a vent than anything else)

Hey folks,

I took the frontloader (complete) off my tractor to make it easier to change the headgasket. After I took it off and used the tractor a little, I realized that I don't really need it other than a couple of little convenience things. Anyway, after reading a couple of forums here and people were looking for one, I decided to sell it. It is used, so I called a handler in the area (tractor junkyard) and asked what it would cost to buy a complete loader from him (mounting frame 400 bucks, main loader arm 350, hydraulic cyls 150 pair, bucket 150, fork 150, rear weight for 3pt 75 plus hoses and lines +/- 100) 1375 bucks .

Offered it for 1200 bucks and people flipped. What do people want?
Think I'll just keep it and mount it again sometime.

I feel better now,

Dave

Yep! look at Tractorhouse how much are they going for. I have a john deere #48 off a 1010 No cracks or repair welds, came complete with all mounting brackets, cylinders, hoses, and pump. It didnt bring $350 on Ebay. The same loader is $2,000 on tractorhouse. And I got a dearborn 19-23 all hydraulic off an 8N, a guy last night offered me $400, I laughed. I told him fill up your gas tank with the rest of your money, ride around and see what you can get for $400 and we wish you ALOT of luck.

And If someone is looking for a good loader for the right price Im listing it in the Photo ads here on YT.

I come across complete loaders taken off tractors - often - in the price ranges of $400 to $800. Those are private sales. Try to buy the same at the local tractor salvage yard and used loaders in the same condition have price tags of twice or three-times that. Nothing new about that - private sales just about always offer the best bargains.
You can't compare the two types of sales. I've seen complete loaders scrapped, which is a shame - considering they probably brought less than $50.

I am considering selling my all hyd IH 2001 loader. All new paint and a rebuild bucket cylinder. I was hoping for $1500, heck I was told that to replace that one cylinder is $800. I wont sell if for a few hundred.

I bought a loader for my tractor off a ad on this site for $300. Several years ago, but finding somebody who needs that particular loader can be hard.

Local Case dealer wants over $1000 for the boom cylinder on my 580CK backhoe. Yet, I can buy a complete good working hoe from the local salvage yard for $600. That's just the way it goes.

I always figure the rule of the double when buying or selling. If I buy something from a junkyard I figure he needs to double his money to pay his overhead so I price what I'm selling at half salvage retail. If I buy something to resell, I can use the rule of the double to see if I've got room for profit.

Thanks. I guess I'll just put everything together and hang onto it. Better to have and not need than need and not have.

Few years ago whole MM corn shellers were selling for $100-150.

A distant friend needed the back elevator for his - had to shell now sort of thing, the junk yard got $250 for just the elevator.

Salvage yards are there for when you need something, gotta have it.

Can't compare their prices to the real world.

I agree, about 1/2 your total is often a good fair market price.

Stuck tractors sell for $400-600, buy a part off one at the alvage, you only need to buy 2-3 parts & you will be at $600. Just not the way to get to market price for the whole unit....

I think it all depends on the condition and type of loader. Also how badly someone needs a loader. Some people just try to get the price lower so they can turn around and make a profit on it. I saw a new JD loader on an oversize garden tractor that was $3500 or some rediculous price like that. $1200 for a good modern loader seems reasonable to me. I bought a like new but used loader for my tractor over 20 years ago for $1200 and I got a good deal. The loader was still available new for more than double the price. Dave

Well, in the first place you can't price your stuff off what some dealer would charge you, that will be the highest price you will find.Second, the economy is bad.It doesn't make any difference what tractorhouse (the highest
prices in the country) equipment is priced at,there mostly people looking for a sucker off
the internet, there local prices are a lot cheaper.Used loaders are not worth much, nobody wants to go to the trouble to install or adapt one, today they want a kubota or like with a loader ,4x4 and easy payments. The market is pretty much gone for older tractors as far as users, older collectors still by a few but noone else wants old stuff to use.Look at the photo adds, nothing is selling.

mike im with you the bubble has burst.... it is gonna take awhile for people to wake up to the fact but get a kick out of the look on their faces when they finally realize it. al

If you don't NEED to sell it right away, why not re-mount it, if you find you still don't need it,adveritze it ,if someone actually does reply, they can actually see it working instead of taking your word for it that it doesn't leak or what not. That way it isn't sitting idle waiting for someone to buy it while it may or may not bother you looking at it either in your yard or taking up space indoors, plus YOU can use it till than.If you get your price, you won't mind taking it off lol.pd

i do declare...if i could find a good loader to fit my tractor, complete, i'd pay 1200 and feel like i got a good deal.

i view it as, how bad do i want it and will it solve my problem for the price ?

Probably what will happen..... It is pretty ugly at the moment also. It's not costing me anything and I actually MADE money when I bought it because I bought one set, then paid scrap (100 bucks at the time) price for an entire tractor with another loader so I could use the hydraulics. Got mine together and sold the excess stuff on ebay and covered everything and half what I paid for my tractor itself. If I had a neighbor that needed it, I'd pass on my good fortune. If I sell it and then kick myself, I'll be out big bucks.
The economy isn't so bad here and plenty of people use old machines to take care of small horse operations and farms.

Thanks,

Dave
